(It's right up there with admitting you thought Bull Durham was a tiresome bore.)
You know, Sports Movies with a Side of Romance are, like, my One True Movie style. My Desert Island Discs would include The Cutting Edge, Dodgeball, A Knight's Tale, and Men With Brooms. I can't help it. They stir something in me.
That said?
Bull Durham bored the crap out of me.
Though I do have a sick fondness for Tin Cup.

Gee, I really love Shawshank! That's one of my can't-click-past-it-on-TV movies, even though I own the anniversary DVD (the one with all the bells and whistles on it). I cry at the end of that movie almost every time, and think that Red's final voiceover monologue ("I hope the Pacific is as blue as it is in my dreams. I hope.") is one of the best last lines ever.

I'm with Megan on Forrest Gump. And don't get me started on the accents in that one.
I didn't like Shawshank all that much, either, but it's one of my wife's favorites (along with The Fifth Element, a movie that makes me want to claw out my eyes), so I've seen it more times than I care to admit. I don't much like Bull Durham, either, for the record.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.
The Shawshank Redemption is my second favourite movie on that list, followed reasonably closely by Star Wars and preceded by A Clockwork Orange.
Those are not sacred cows at all, I agree. Put Casablanca on the list, or something. Those are just movies.

FYI, if anyone else you know is coming in for the festival in March: A computer glitch forced me to call the Habitat Suites for my reservation, and I ended up getting a $99/night rate. Very psyched.
