Also, circles and blinky lights are pretty.

Should I see the Fountain, or not? Would I be better off with Happy Feet?

I like to take advantage of $5.50 matinees when I come home to Mississippi, and I already saw Casion Royale, and Bobby looks... not so good.

Well, two of my co-workers are credited in Bobby, so I feel compelled to recommend it in spite of the mixed reviews. (Haven't seen it myself yet.)

The Fountain is very, very pretty. The performances are good, and Hugh Jackman in the leather conquistador pants is VERY good. The message is a bit heavy-handed, for values of "a bit" which equal "a whole lot." The score is very nice. The film has good momentum, and the cutting between storylines is quite well done. The production design is gorgeous.

Basically, there's a lot to like about it, but E and I still spent the entire subway ride home mocking it mercilessly, because it does make its point about life and death and love over and over and over again in such an earnest way that we just couldn't help it.

Saw Casino Royale.

As others have noted, the love scenes in the middle brought everything to a dead stop. Ugh. And I think Bond's reaction to her death might have actually been more moving without those scenes, which was the most frustrating part. Well, and I think her behavior might have made more sense as well. I want to believe those bits were by Haggis.

Eva Green kept reminding me of Jennifer Jason Leigh. I think it was her voice. Oh, I did love the shower scene though. Not as much as I loved what I imagined when I heard it described, but enough.

--And I've just spotted that she's playing Anna in In the Country of Last Things. To which I say: they're making a MOVIE of In the Country of Last Things? Huh. --

My favorite bit from the parkour chase was when the other dude dove feet-first through that window or gap or whatever, and then Bond just smashed straight through the drywall. All the stunt scenes were fun. The fact that Bond kept getting hurt helped. Granted, he wasn't hurt enough, but at least I genuinely felt like he was in danger. And I liked that SMERSH/SPECTRE was never mentioned by name.

What I thought was hysterical was that apparently Le Chiffre realized that his eye was distinctive, so he disguises himself by wearing glasses with one blacked-out lens. I mean, what?

Oh yeah: Most gracious credits I've ever seen. There were lines giving extra thanks to the electricians and the model-makers, I think.

I go to the theater so seldom that I'm never prepared for the adrenaline rush I get afterwards. I may go run around the block now.
