Sail, Fela had no interest in seeing CR, which is saying something, considering he sees most everything. He'd been so ground down by the cheese, improbability and general silliness that the Bond franchise had become.
None. Of. That. Here.
Fela ended up loving it and thanked me several times for convincing him to go.
Be aware that it is super violent...made even more jarring if you've seen the previous Bonds. There is also a scene of
torture,
that one line stander told me he was worried about before we got into the theatre. It was unpleasant, to be sure, but there is ONE aspect of it that mediates the violence. I'm sure you'll know immediately what I mean.
I've heard about the mediating factor in that scene--the radio show I was listening to yesterday morning delved into that bit. As in,
the traffic and news reporters (both female) were squealing over the prospect of semi-nude Bond!
Are all those Daniel Craig haters eating crow? Cause I want them to have to choke it down.
We're going to see
Stranger than Fiction
at Arclight tonight. Woot!
And we're finally seeing
Borat
at...the United Artists theatre in Emeryville!
I'm not going to be able to finish
Citizen Ruth
before I have to leave for Hollywood tonight but so far it is excellent. Such a great cast.

THIS.
All the naysayers are gonna havta take it all back. He rocks like a rocking thing. Looks. Intensity. Wearing the tux. And those eyes...I've said it before, and I'll say it again. Whoa.
Just saw Bond-- a very good version, though I was a bit disappointed by several things. However, if anyone is concerned, I don't think it's that violent, and certainly not as gross as, say, Licence to Kill.
I guess as for what I *didn't* like about it, the
several hours following the first hour dragged a bit. It was hard to care about the final scenes.
ETA: though I appreciated the scene seemingly imagined by Tom of Finland.
Stranger than Fiction
was indeed great. Wonderful performances by everyone! I finished up
Citizen Ruth
when I got home and that too I recommend.
Here's the take on the Bond movie we had--dude, could the camera love Craig more? There's more manflesh, just his, than there is cumulative womanflesh in the flick. All the cheesecake is become beef. Hysterical.
Costumer loved him too, and hated all the women, most especially
Le Chiffre's consort--how much more low end stripper could she get?
Horrible.
I despised the
schmoop bits.
I think it's because Eva Green was so damned flat. The total weak link in the movie.
I wished very hard that Bond had been ready to kill
Vesper when she betrayed him, and I really thought we were to think that, but then he goes beserk trying to rescue her,
and my cold heart was disappointed.
I have to admit, listening to myself talk about the movie to the friend I went with, I sounded really callous and capricious. It's just that I reflexively thought that when Vesper
fell in love with Bond, the leverage the baddies had on her disappeared.
I had to be reminded that that was more than a bit dispassionate. Still, she did
piss around for a month before handing over the money.
That's not nice.
Oops.
