Buffista Movies 5: Development Hell
A place to talk about movies--old and new, good and bad, high art and high cheese. It's the place to place your kittens on the award winners, gossip about upcoming fims and discuss DVD releases and extras. Spoiler policy: White font all plot-related discussion until a movie's been in wide release two weeks, and keep the major HSQ in white font until two weeks after the video/DVD release.
I'm not sure how happy I'd be, traipsing around Newfoundland in a loincloth. Gets a bit nippy, don't you think??
The movie is clearly set in July and August, when average highs are in the low 70s F: [link]
ETA: It does seems to adequately capture the damp climate of Newfoundland. Leather loincloths are so comfortable when you're battling helmet-heads in a swamp! [link]
Trust me, I've been in Newfoundland in the summer, it's not loincloth country.
Bug bites! Bug bites in new places!
Don't get me wrong; I'm all for hot young things getting the Red Sonja treatment, but.
(Also, Matt's point is kind of the real dealbreaker; that and the knowledge that the Vikings didn't even perceive the North American natives as humans.)
Horns. They're using horns on the Viking helmets. I can smell the cheese from here.
Yes, Matt's point is a very disquieting one.
I get the feeling that the producer thought up this idea on a Sunday afternoon.
Oh, Tom, you are evil. That is awesome and terrible both at once.
Next up: Buccaneers take on the 49ers! Cutlasses will be crossed with pickaxes! Losers hanged from the yardarm or the nearest sequoia!!
(Patriots take all, of course.)
Hoping to go see Volver tonight. Movies on a school night always makes me feel as if I am getting away with something, even though I haven't been in school in, um, 29 years.
I saw Volver last night and it was wonderful. I'm always amazed at the great performances Almodovar gets out of Penelope Cruz. I never think much of her in general but in this movie (and in All About My Mother , my favorite Almodovar movie) she's excellent. Also? HOTT!!! Anyway, fabulous movie!
Miyazaki fans: Is My Neighbor Totoro acceptable for a two-year-old? I'm not remembering anything graphic (like in Princess Mononoke ) or scary (like in Spirited Away ), but am I forgetting anything?
