Buffista Movies 5: Development Hell

A place to talk about movies--old and new, good and bad, high art and high cheese. It's the place to place your kittens on the award winners, gossip about upcoming fims and discuss DVD releases and extras. Spoiler policy: White font all plot-related discussion until a movie's been in wide release two weeks, and keep the major HSQ in white font until two weeks after the video/DVD release.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

Damn, that's like being able to put the Library of Alexandria in a picnic basket.

Life moves pretty fast. You don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.

Ooh, that's a sweet set right there.

I’d be lying if I didn’t say that I miss them all tonight…

Criterion really knows how to do a boxed set

Shit's all sorts of different now.

OH! OH OH OH!

We watched Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room this weekend. I know were are sooo late to join that wagon train, but never in my life have I ever been so angry at a movie before.

Ok, that's not true. I was very very very angry at Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil. But when it ended, I didn't feel like taking a crap on Ken Lay's grave.

What else besides ramen can you scoop? YOU CAN SCOOP THIS WORLD FROM DARKNESS!

I will never get tired of recut trailers:

Office Space...as a thriller.

The font is awful, but it's still hilarious. Very well done.

aka "The artist formerly known as Corwood Industries."

More awful news about the Adrienne Shelly murder. Might be better to skip if you're feeling celebratory this morning.

Because books.

Oh god. That's awful. I was thinking the other day, though, that the initial report about punching her in the face and killing her seemed a little unlikely.

God. Her poor daughter, and her husband. Completely senseless. Humans so often really suck.

"There are few hours in life more agreeable than the hour dedicated to the ceremony known as afternoon tea."

That story just gets more and more awful. The poor family.

We're very stretchy. - Connie Neil

I'm going through the latest batch of trailers OnDemand, and I stumbled across one for Pathfinder, which I might just go see for the sheer pleasure of Karl Urban in Native American garb, complete with leather loincloth. Looks like he's going the New Action Star route, which I hope works for him--it'll mean more pretty for me onscreen!

The trailer looks like the movie can either be decent cheese or just really really bad. Storyline (as laid out in the over-informative trailer) is that when the Vikings landed made their first foray into Nova Scotia some 1000 years ago, the raiding party (costumed most excellently, btw) accidentally left behind a young boy who is then adopted by the local native tribe. He grows up to become Karl Urban, who defends his adoptive tribe with his best action-hero brutality when the raiders return.
