Hi Laga! This is the first Inarritu/Arriaga film I've seen, but DH has seen all of them and thought Amores Perros was much better.
The major problem with this one is that one of the storylines hinges on a character acting so unbelievably stupidly that it's impossible to feel any sympathy for them from that point on. And the "breakdown in communication" parallels between the plots are...tenuous at best. There's really only one plot where communication is actually the problem, and even there I'm not sure that better communication could solve anything.

I'm so glad Laga has found a home here! People, the woman has seen pretty much every movie in existence and always has interesting opinions on them. I'm so happy she has a thread where someone will say,"Yeah, I've seen that!" instead of my inevitable, "Um...no, was it good?"
She's also the reason I have seen so many movies this year--she gets free (or $1.25 if at the Arclight) tickets for herself and friends! Woot!

Oh please there's lots of movies I haven't seen. But I still manage to have an opinion on them. Good to hear I can skip Babel. 21 Grams didn't get great reviews either. The next couple movies I'm looking forward to are based on books I loved: Running With Schissors and Into the Wild

I liked Amores Perros, but I HATED 21 Grams.

I recently saw the trailer for Stranger Than Fiction. Now, I'm not a Will Farell fan, but that looks like it has potential, especially since it costars Emma Thompson and Dustin Hoffman. I love the premise ( man begins hearing a voice narrating his life, only to find out that he's actually a character in a WIP book ), and have hopes for Thompson, if not Farell.

I saw the trailer to that one, too, and almost didn't recognize Will Farell. He's too over the top, too often, that I don't care for him much. I'll reserve judgement on this one, though, because I did like the trailer.

I agree, but I loved him so much in Elf. Stranger Than Fiction looks like it could be really great and interesting. It's totally the sort of movie I would write. I mean, I'm the kind of person who loves the scene in George of the Jungle where the guy argues with the narrator, and then the other guy yells at him for arguing with the narrator.

One of the reasons I love Sondheim's Into the Woods is because he has the other fairy-tale characters turn on the Narrator and toss him to the Giant.

I very much want to see "Stranger Than Fiction." And don't think I'm not upset that this is the second Ferrell film I've wanted to see/have seen this year, because I really really am. I thought I had him figured out, and then he goes and does *my* type of comedy.
