Why is Virgin Suicides considered slight? It's a story of, what, five sisters who all committed suicide, most on the same night, and why they did it. Was it a trifle because the girls were pretty? I don't get it.
Also, I think it was the male protagonist who was dreamy and glazed in LiT.
Trivia:
Thermopylae
means Hot Springs.
Huh. That's actually pretty interesting. I wonder if that means that those poor, doomed souls got to spend their last days before the Persians arrived soaking in what probably amounted to the area's finest spas, pampering themselves before their inevitable deaths. That would certainly provide an interesting new light on the reasons for chosing the pass as the battleground, as well....
"Sure, the pass is strategically advantageous, but I'll be damned if I let those stinkin' Persians have my hot springs!"
Clearly, this means that the key to winning the War on the Middle EastTerror is to send Kyan Douglas and Carson Kressley to the front lines in Iraq in order to give our soldiers exercise and grooming advice.
by ways of introduction: KristinT introduced me to b.org, hiya.
I had no idea who Sofia Coppola was when I saw Lost in Translation and I loved it. That it is all about mood is one of the things I loved about it. It's not like other flicks. I went back and watched The Virgin Suicides and dug that too. Sometimes I read what others have written about her pictures and wonder if I've been deceived but I think if you enjoy something that's all you need. You can analyze any picture until it falls apart. I'm going into Marie Antoinette with an open mind.

This. While there are times I want to analyze a movie, my first impulse in movie watching it just to watch the story and let myself sink into it. As long as nothing pulls me out of the story, I don't stop to think what anything means...it just is. Afterward, if I feel it was either really good or really bad, I'll take a look at why I feel that way. Movies are escape for me, not a homework assignment. YHomeworkMV.
I haven't seen
Marie
yet, but I will always love Sofia Coppola for
Platinum
.
She could make a billion bad movies in a row, and I would still see the next one, hoping if it would do to me what LiT does to me.
Just thinking about that movie makes me happy, sad, hopeful, and depressed, all at the same time.
Seeing Marie as much for the pretty as anything, though. And the soundtrack.
Hey Laga, welcome aboard!
I can say with some certainty that at the very least I really like Sofia's musical taste.
