A Silent Bob one would be kinda cool, except Kevin Smith makes me itch.

Buffista Movies 5: Development Hell
A place to talk about movies--old and new, good and bad, high art and high cheese. It's the place to place your kittens on the award winners, gossip about upcoming fims and discuss DVD releases and extras. Spoiler policy: White font all plot-related discussion until a movie's been in wide release two weeks, and keep the major HSQ in white font until two weeks after the video/DVD release.
JZ dug into my Val Lewton box set tonight and we watched The Body Snatchers. Holy shit, that's a great horror movie. Fantastic look (using standing sets from The Hunchback of Notre Dame and Magnificent Ambersons), dark, morally ambiguous. Probably Karloff's greatest performance - very sly and sardonic and menacing. Yet weirdly soulful.
Like most Lewton films (this was directed by Robert Wise), it looks and feels a lot like a noir.
I want to see Marie Antoinette and Pan's Labyrinth so much I'm attributing that sharp pain in my chest and numb feeling in my left hand to it.
I really want to see Marie Antoinette. And I dislike Kirsten Dunst immensely. But those trailers, with New Order, are just captivating.
And I dislike Kirsten Dunst immensely.
This movie will not make you like her, unfortunately. She's being directed in a very specifically stylized manner (as is everyone else), and while it works for what the film is trying to achieve, it's not very flattering to her acting abilities.
(But go see the movie anyway! It's almost great!)
I want to go because it'll be very very very pretty. I'm very into 18th century dress.

Aimee is me. It looks like costume eye candy. Which is much the way I felt about The Age of Innocence, and the sets/costumes for Bram Stoker's Dracula.

The exact reason I will go see it. I expect to spend most of the movie going "Oooh! Want that dress! Oooh, shoes pretty!"

Yeah, well, I dislike the actual Marie Antoinette as well. She was a twit. So I'm not surprised.
Jess, do they actually use more modern music as the soundtrack to the film? Or is it just in the trailer?
I am not a fan of 18th century dress. (Except for sea captains. *coughJackAubreycough*) And France at that time was entirely too white-focused for my tastes.

Yes, the entire soundtrack is pop music, and it works brilliantly.
