Buffista Movies 5: Development Hell

A place to talk about movies--old and new, good and bad, high art and high cheese. It's the place to place your kittens on the award winners, gossip about upcoming fims and discuss DVD releases and extras. Spoiler policy: White font all plot-related discussion until a movie's been in wide release two weeks, and keep the major HSQ in white font until two weeks after the video/DVD release.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

When Raq asked upthread for horror movies, Santa Sangre sprang to mind along with Oldboy and The Audition which have been preoccupying that bit of my brain recently. So she's going to seek it out. Maybe I'll rewatch--it's been almost 20 years.

Then again, maybe I won't.

Cruising Netflix, it's recommending Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance as being enjoyed by people who enjoyed:

  • Oldboy
  • Audition
  • Three... Extremes
  • Paradise Now
  • The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada

Seems, along with Lady Vengeance and Oldboy it forms a revenge trilogy of Chan wook Park’s. Anyone seen these two? Seen Three... Extremes or Paradise Now? I've read enough on Three Burials that I have no reason to think it's similar. But I wonder about the rest.

Paradise Now is a film about two Palistinian brothers who decide to become suicide bombers but change their minds. Not at all a horror or action movie.

ETA: Or about revenge....

I think DH has seen (and liked) all of those.

Art Crawl!!!

From Wizard News:

FANS SHOCKED BY HARRY POTTER'S OFF-COLOR SKIT Daniel Radcliffe isn't the squeaky clean boy wizard some "Harry Potter" fans think he is. Radcliffe appeared in an off-color skit, dressed as a Boy Scout, propositioning an older woman. The skit has been picked up by YouTube, where it's drawing some outrage, but mostly amusement.
