Oh, that trailer looks godawful.
Stone looks ludicrous. And desperate.
Lord, yes. I've only ever seen about 40 minutes of
Basic Instinct,
and it was mostly crap, but in the midst of the crappitude she stood out like... like a thing that stands out. Not a good actor, not doing anything particularly interesting with lines that were badly written anyhow, but physically she was amazing. She looked so good on camera and in motion, and she seemed so at home in her body and seemed to be having such evil fun playing with her sexuality. This cool, classy blonde stinking of funk, like a feral Grace Kelly. The movie itself still mostly blew, but she was weirdly riveting.
If the sequel trailer accurately represents the whole movie, what the hell happened? It's all just gone. Ludicrous and desperate, indeed.
The music video, on the other hand? Super fantastic!
but Stone looks ludicrous. And desperate.
Tell me about it. To see it is to cringe.
I've just looked up the director, and it's not Paul V-whazzhisname. It's someone named Michael Caton-Jones, who's Scottish and has made some decent films in the past--
Rob Roy, Scandal, Memphis Belle,
etc. Huh.
That music video makes the baby Jesus cry.

At one point Cronenberg was attached to it of all people. That would have been....interesting. Glad he went with HISTORY OF VIOLENCE instead.
Vin Diesel's next project.
(For those who, unlike me, know when to stay away from bad French cyberpunk, this is quite possibly the worst book ever written. I'm just curious enough to go back and give it another try before the movie comes out.)
I couldn't get the trailer for Basic Instinct 2 to run, for some reason.
In utterly unrelated news, I was cruising through IMDb, looking up various people, and I discovered an interesting bit of triva -- Logan Ramsey, dead character actor and husband of Anne Ramsey (who played Danny DeVito's mom in Throw Momma From the Train), is the son of Lt. Cmdr. Logan Ramsey, who sent one of the most famous radio messages in history, AIR RAID PEARL HARBOR, THIS IS NO DRILL, immediatly after sounding the alarm from Ford Island.
Talk about shoes you have no hope of ever filling.
Always?
But I like bad cyberpunk. And I like overwrought French philosophy. Who knew they'd be such a tragically bad combination? (THAT WAS RHETORICAL.)
Anne Ramsey (who played Danny DeVito's mom in Throw Momma From the Train)
Helen Hunt's sister from Mad About You played Danny DeVito's Mom? That's some range.
Went to a screening of
Firewall
last night. SUCKS. It plays as if you fed every thriller cliche into a blender and then filmed whatever came out. Really obvious and shallow and bad, but I predict people who like not thinking at all--like, don't even want to worry about what might happen next--will enjoy it. Bettany is cute when he is being menacing, though.
