I was skeptical, you know, cause it's what I do, and I've seen most of the Bonds and all, but I'd probably see it based on the trailer I saw the other night.
Buffista Movies 5: Development Hell
A place to talk about movies--old and new, good and bad, high art and high cheese. It's the place to place your kittens on the award winners, gossip about upcoming fims and discuss DVD releases and extras. Spoiler policy: White font all plot-related discussion until a movie's been in wide release two weeks, and keep the major HSQ in white font until two weeks after the video/DVD release.
I think he'll be a completely capable Bond (while still nursing a slight grudge over the way Brosnan was booted). The best thing is Casino Royale is an actual Ian Fleming story that's thankfully lacking satellite weapons systems or opportunities for Denise Richards to play a nuclear physicist.
for a guy who was getting guff for his will-o-the-wispiness
Really, he was? I thought he looks pretty normal, as actors go. They were hoping for Lou Ferigno??
he looks like rougher trade than Clive Owen has been.
He was rough in Layer Cake (a smug little dislikeable movie, with a couple of good notes), and then I saw him as a South African Zionist agent (who wore tight pants and gold chains!!) in Munich. Nice to think that Bond might have range.
Still not convinced that there won't be some true idiocy in there somewhere, but likable idiocy beats unlikable hands down.
Possibly better than the actual movie: [link]
Count me in with Cash in liking Layer Cake.
Just got back from seeing Half Nelson. The movie is too long, but Ryan Gosling was AMAZING. A really impressive performance--you really see the way addiction inexorably progresses and how that erodes his personality. I was also thrilled to see classroom scenes where they got it right--the teacher sounded like a teacher and the kids behaved like actual kids. There was no comedic banter or character-defining lines.
Oooh, I saw the CR trailer when I went to see SoaP. I thought it looked like fun, but what interested me the most is that it looks like they're actually going back to when Bond became a double-Oh. I didn't pay enough attention to the trailer to see if they tried to make it look like it was set in the past or if they still stick with a contemporary storyline. I'm a little leery of that, but it would explain the lack of Star Wars like satellite weapons. I'm wondering who they'll have play Q? The scenes in the trailer played by fast enough, I don't remember that much from it. Just, new. pretty. Bond!
I just visited craigsnotbond.com and it says "We 100% support Daniel Craig as the next James Bond"
Did somebody sneak in and buy the domain name, or did they all change their mind when the trailer came out, or am I just very confused?
Ah, there it is: danielcraigisnotbond.com is a hate campaign site now. Weird.
Does that qualify as fandom wank?
The anti-Craig people showed up on fandom wank when the petition and website first went up but they haven't been any new activity since then. I'm sure that will change as it closer to Nov 17.
Do any of them think that a petition is going to have any effect when the movie's already filmed and about to be released everywhere?
