I'm gathering, not much. I don't know if the ending is the same. If you've never seen the original, try not to get spoiled for the ending.
The original came out in the early 70's, I think, with Christopher Lee, Britt Eklund, and Edward Woodward. I have it on video, it may be on DVD and/or *ahem*able.
It's faithful to the basic plot of the original, but completely misses on everything else.

It's on DVD - Anchor Bay did a regular DVD and a boxed set (comes in a wooden box with scorch marks on it).
A reviewer on Amazon said it best. If you haven't seen the original, watch it before seeing the remake b/c all the remake will do is spoil the ending of the original, without giving you any of it's other great qualities.

Ah, I'm just in a sniffly mood. Just started the Chronicles of Narnia and the scene with the kids at the train station had me tearing up out of sympathy. Must be something to do with the weather out, today. All gray and drippy.
Sail, I do that at every WWII kids on the train scenes--CoN, Five Children and It, Hope and Glory. Fucking hormones.
