You know, I've saved lives. Dozens. Maybe hundreds. I reattached a girl's leg. Her whole leg. She named her hamster after me. I got a hamster. He drops a box of money, he gets a town.

Buffista Movies 5: Development Hell

A place to talk about movies--old and new, good and bad, high art and high cheese. It's the place to place your kittens on the award winners, gossip about upcoming fims and discuss DVD releases and extras. Spoiler policy: White font all plot-related discussion until a movie's been in wide release two weeks, and keep the major HSQ in white font until two weeks after the video/DVD release.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

Many more Spidey movies to come.

I bet they'd like to make a brazilian more, but without Raimi and Maguire I suspect that they'll start their downward trend in quality and ultimately profitability.

I'm terrifically busy with my ennui.

Speaking of sequels, what are your nominations for "most pointless sequel ever"? I'm currently torn between "Cheaper By the Dozen 2" and "The Whole Ten Yards", although TWTY gets a point for having a terrible sequel-ish name.

Remember that the frontier of the Rebellion is everywhere. And even the smallest act of insurrection pushes our lines forward.

Baby Geniuses 2. Hands down.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

The Whole Ten Yards is definitely in the running. The first movie was surprisingly okay, but not great. Certainly not enough to warrant a sequel.

I think the last Christopher Reeves Superman movie (with the environmental theme?) is a contender.

Also Stuart Little 2

Godfather 3

Jaws 3 in 3-D

Garfield 2

Kids' movies (or movies with kids) do seem to be among the worst offenders. I'm going to have to disqualify "Stuart Little 2", though, because anything that gives Hugh Laurie a paycheck is okay in my book.

You can't leave me to my own devices; my devices are Nap and Eat. -Zenkitty

Jurassic Park II

Anything Animated Disney II (Cinderella II, Brother Bear II [was the first one even good????], Lilo & Stitch II, the abominable list goes on....)

"We are the Goon Squad and we're coming to town...Beep! Beep!" - David Bowie, "Fashion"

I think the last Christopher Reeves Superman movie (with the environmental theme?) is a contender.

Superman IV: The Quest for Peace. With Jon Cryer as Luthor's nephew for youth draw (oy!).

Godfather 3

Poor Sofia - the meta of her getting shot at the end of the movie and exclaiming "Dad!" is hysterical.

I'd like to submit Speed 2: Cruise Control. If a subtitle was EVER a warning...

It's five thousand for kissing, ten thousand for snuggling... End of list.

Depends on your meaning of pointless. A lot of these came after unexpectedly profitable originals.
