Buffista Movies 5: Development Hell

A place to talk about movies--old and new, good and bad, high art and high cheese. It's the place to place your kittens on the award winners, gossip about upcoming fims and discuss DVD releases and extras. Spoiler policy: White font all plot-related discussion until a movie's been in wide release two weeks, and keep the major HSQ in white font until two weeks after the video/DVD release.

I thought Hamlet was Shakespeare's love song to Mel Gibson.

It's five thousand for kissing, ten thousand for snuggling... End of list.

I liked Victor Garber. And the band that went down with the ship.

Not that it's not a guilty pleasure; guilt away. But I strongly disagree that people who don't like it haven't seen it. Or are just being needlessly snobbish.

"We are the Goon Squad and we're coming to town...Beep! Beep!" - David Bowie, "Fashion"

I liked Victor Garber.

His apology to Rose for not building a better boat was a thing of beauty. The captain was good too (though I space on the actor).

What else besides ramen can you scoop? YOU CAN SCOOP THIS WORLD FROM DARKNESS!

But I strongly disagree that people who don't like it haven't seen it. Or are just being needlessly snobbish.

That's not what he said, though. He's saying people who don't see it are being needlessly snobbish.

That would be THEODEN KING! Bernard Hill.

Ha! You must have beamed the name "Bernard" to me, but I kept thinking "Bernard Lee" and I knew that was wrong.

Side question - was it Bernard Hill in BELLMAN & TRUE (a nifty British crime movie)?

Because books.

I liked Titanic because it was so fricking pretty. The details of the boat, and the clothing, and all of it were so loving.

Then the thing hit the iceberg and I was kind of freaked out by how sad and terrifying it must have been when it really happened.

Jack and Rose didn't affect me one way or the other, although I liked the fact that Rose survived, and survived to live a life full of adventure and curiosity, on her own terms.

Also, Kate Winslet is very pretty.

The captain was good too (though I space on the actor).

The ... father/king in LotR. The one who was cursed, and then got uncursed. Sheesh, how did all the names slip away after seeing all three movies a zillion times?

Always Anti-fascist!

I really didn't like it. Though not with...say, Pretty Woman hatred. I think part of it is, that there are some movies their fans take to so deep that if you don't like them, it's like there's a rock where your heart should be.

Mention “Titanic” to educated, cultured folk and there’s a good chance you’ll be met with condescending sniffs and, if you’re lucky, a defiant declaration that they’ve never seen it, accompanied by a proud refusal to even brook the notion.

That's not what he said, though. He's saying people who don't see it are being needlessly snobbish.

Well...no. He said educated, cultured folks condescend about it and if you are lucky they haven't even seen it, whatever sense that makes.

IMDb says yes.
