Aside from Brokeback Mountain I haven't noticed any particular aura of slashiness around him. Now, if they'd wanted to cast Ewan McGregor in the role opposite Bale...

Buffista Movies 5: Development Hell
A place to talk about movies--old and new, good and bad, high art and high cheese. It's the place to place your kittens on the award winners, gossip about upcoming fims and discuss DVD releases and extras. Spoiler policy: White font all plot-related discussion until a movie's been in wide release two weeks, and keep the major HSQ in white font until two weeks after the video/DVD release.
Awwww, why didn't they do that?
Owen Wilson responds to Steely Dan's letter: "I have never heard the song `Cousin Dupree' and I don't even know who this gentleman, Mr. Steely Dan, is. I hope this helps to clear things up and I can get back to concentrating on my new movie, `HEY 19.'"
See, when I read the letter from Steely Dan, I thought they were just giving Owen a bunch of shit. Maybe not....
Heh. I wonder how the studio feels about that comment.
I think that the studio would be thrilled with any sort of publicity at all for Dupree. They probably sent a big thank-you gift to Steely Dan.
Nice bit of cross promotion, that. Masses of ink for very little trouble. Free publicity...it even made it into the Washington Post two days this week already. The 'open letter to Luke Wilson' is pretty hilarious.
I'd expect nothing less from friends of Wes Anderson!
I thought they were just giving Owen a bunch of shit. Maybe not....
I think they are. I think Owen's playing along with it. "Hey Nineteen" is a nice touch. Unsurprising that the WaPo isn't quite getting it....
Today is actually the first time I'd gone and read the original full quotes from both parties, and the press coverage on this (which I'd kind of been following in the background) now seems way off base. It seems pretty clear that they're all having a laugh at the expense of the press and the audience.
I should ask my uncle for the inside scoop -- Donald Fagen was his college roommate.
I think they are. I think Owen's playing along with it.
He's gotta be - the "Mr. Steely Dan" comment is such a giveaway. Owen should totally show up at the concert.
