Damn. Now I want to see it.

Buffista Movies 5: Development Hell
A place to talk about movies--old and new, good and bad, high art and high cheese. It's the place to place your kittens on the award winners, gossip about upcoming fims and discuss DVD releases and extras. Spoiler policy: White font all plot-related discussion until a movie's been in wide release two weeks, and keep the major HSQ in white font until two weeks after the video/DVD release.
Disliked Alan Ball's influence at times, but generally throught the writing was strong.
I found Ball's episodes to be the weakest; I'm the same way with Rob Thomas and Veronica Mars.
ETA. Which is funny since they're the creators.
All the characters on 6 Feet Under made me want to smack them. A Lot. And that's why I hated it.
This. There was not a single character I cared about, even a little.
TOTAL. I felt the same way about American Beauty , too.
There was not a single character I cared about, even a little.
I'm not sure just how bad a show would have to get before I ceased to care about characters played by Lauren Ambrose, Peter Krause and Rachel Griffiths, but 6FU wasn't bad enough. In large part I cared more in spite of the writing than because of it, but still and all I couldn't not care about them.
Jilli, I knew exactly which scene you meant too. And, oh, that moment is so mournful and heartbreaking and deeply, deeply creepifying.
Yep, that's the one. Possibly the creepiest moment in television, ever.
Yeah, it's up there with a few select Twin Peaks and X-Files moments for sheer creepiness, but it's sadder and more haunted. Really devastating.
WROD. Also gross: Having your dad tell you he *is* Lester. Very disturbing from the guy who's given you responsiblity lectures your whole stupid life. I guess that means for Father's Day I could get him a bong and some Snoballs though, so maybe there is an upside.
Also gross: Having your dad tell you he *is* Lester.
"Um, dad? I'm pretty sure nobody was meant to identify with Lester Burnam."
ETA. Which is funny since they're the creators.
Lots of folks around here feel that way about Joss' work on Angel. Though I think he was the best writer on BtVS and love his work equally with Tim's on Firefly.
That Carnivale scene was just heartbreaking and scary as hell. My fave scary Twin Peaks scene was when Laura's dad looked into the mirror and saw Bob looking back at him. YIKES! I know that I freaked.
Not sure if I needed to whitefont that, but just in case...
Yeah...three years later, still makes me squirm. Although thinking of him opening his bong, black light and munchies with love from his daughter on Father's Day is kind of funny. I don't really have the stones though. But it would be nice to buy a gift that he would like for a change.
