I don't think there's any way this movie was going to be universally liked -- the subject matter alone is going to turn a lot of people off, let alone that it's a comic book adaptation. So mixed reviews, in this case, are a good sign, I think.

Yeah, the reviews I've seen have been very polarized. But a mix of "Fantastic!" and "Terrible!" is a lot more interesting to me than everyone going, "It's okay."

I did like the one review that... I can't find now, which vexes. He seemed confused by the extremism, and to not recognize it as such, which was kind of amusing.

I disagree with y'all about Zacherek. Her tastes in movies seem very eclectic, but she has a pronounced tendency to cut banal Hollywood movies (of the type that I'll never see) a lot a slack as long as they're about basic human relationships. In fact, that's her thing: she likes Altman and she goes easy on romantic comedies. She almost always hates sci fi and/or other movies more about ideas than interpersonal stuff.
