Hey! What do you two think you're doing? Fightin' at a time like this. You'll use up all the air!

[NAFDA] Spike-centric discussion. Lusty, lewd (only occasionally crude), risque (and frisque), bawdy (Oh, lawdy!), flirty ('cuz we're purty), raunchy talk inside. Caveat lector.

General poll: what did you do after you graduated college?

Spent three weeks driving cross-country with my two roommates (and staying with the third roommate for part of it). Mind you, two don't speak to me and one only communicates via LJ, these days, but...

Then I spent two months at home, "looking for a job". Then I moved to DC and temped for a few months. And, um, realized in all the seemingly endless amounts of free time looking for a job that I was gay, and came out.

I wish I'd...gone and done something crazy like move to another country. No better time to do it.

I worked for six months then used the money to backpack around Western Europe for three. Best thing I've ever done.

Like THAT! So jealous of Trudy. And Vortex, cause BUNAC is really cool AND only available after you graduate! (Except for New Zealand, which is until you're 30, which is getting darn closer moment by moment, which scares me...not that I desperately want ot work in New Zealand, but a chance to go work somewhere else is rare!)

having this much opportunity is more than a little overwhelming.

I totally hear that. There are TOO MANY options, really--you can choose where to live, what to do, who to be...

Today is my 8th day without smoking. The little stat thing on Quitnet says that in those 8 days I've NOT smoked 184 cigarettes and I've saved almost $30. Huh.

Go you, Nicole! That sounds like a heavy habit, so it's gotta be extra-tough! Power through!

it beats my previous personal best hourly wage by 67%, so that's pretty cool. And I get to try out commuting by ferry

Dude. Those are both cool!

All is well that ends in pizza.

Andi and I have been watching Monty Python eps. After reading that I had an image in my head of -t saying "I want to commute by fairy." and Eric Idle dressed as a fairy dropping down with a wand, tapping her head and saying "And so you shall!"

I am a woman of various inclinations and only some of the time are they to burn everything down in frustration

oh joy! Oh Rapture ! I have a brain!

Thank goodness for Whaler's rum .

My sister called - just as I was getting really wound out and restless. I paced around while talking on the phone to her. Then i spotted the rum and poured a bit. I am not exactly tired now - but I am feeling almost mellow and relaxed. I think I am going to get my DVD player, bring it to bed and just watch dvd's 'til I am too tired. I need to wind down a bit more before I crash.

You were a wrong baby who grew up wrong. The wrong kind of wrong. It's better you hear it from a friend.

Bob's learned to live with tragedy, but he knows that this tragedy is one that won't ever leave him or get better.

(there is a major mutual need to stay in touch)
That is nice and must be such a comfort for you both, beth. My thoughts are continuing to be with you and Matt and your family.

Belated Happy Birthday, Anne! Your evening sounds lovely. Except for the coffee bit.

Yum Punch! I'm not allowed to go to Trader Joe's until I use some of their jarred sauces I've been collecting in my pantry. It's a self-imposed restriction. I have no will power when I go there. I want one of everything.
This helps explain part of why I was so happy to realize that everything from last night's dinner was from Trader Joe's. My pantry is a little overstocked with things that I just *had* to buy. Using them is nice and yummy. I need guests to come so I have someone to cook for, having people to feed inspires me.

SA, have you taken one of those quizzes that tells you the top 3 or 5 places you should live?
There are tons and tons online. All of them pointed me toward Portland. I'm heading out day after tomorrow to see if they were right.

I'll dig through my bookmarks and see if I can find some additional links for you.

General poll: what did you do after you graduated college?
I started working as a reporter for the local paper before the end of school, so I just continued that. I did my post-grad thing early, in the middle of school, and up and moved out to Tempe, AZ to figure things out. It was a great move for me. I figured out what I enjoyed doing and was good at doing as well. I figured out even more about myself.

Post-divorce and post-layoff, I am unexpectedly (in a "how I planned my life" plan from the last decade) free to do the exploratory fresh start all over again... And I am looking forward to it because my rash decision to move to Phoenix when I was 20 was really one of the best choices I have made and led to a lot of other good choices as well.

Tomorrow we see the lawyers again and sign the guardianship paperwork.
Congratulations!
But don't think of it all in terms of cramming for a test, so much as exploring something strange and big and cool and frequently kerfuffly and (again) strange, with occasional commandments to get drunk and read at the dinner table. Which, now that I think of it, sounds strangely like fandom.
The amych amuses.
Years ago my father and I stayed at a B&B in Ashland, OR that was "known" for their soft boiled eggs at breakfast. The dining room had a shelf that circled the room with an amazing collection of egg cups. At the beginning of your stay, you chose your cup and it was at your place every morning, whether you liked soft boiled eggs or not. And they had those neat egg-top cutter thingies (technical term).
I adore Ashland. My uncle lives in the next town (Medford) so I totally have an excuse to spend tons of time there too. I shall have to find the elusive egg cup B&B when I am there.

I only just learned how to make soft-boiled eggs in a way that I would actually eat in the last couple of months. Timing is critical though so I assume that moving and a new stove are going to frell the whole thing up.

I do it totally wrong technically. Bring the water to a boil, prick an egg end, toss into water, wait six minutes, pull out and rinse in cold water, whack in half, scoop guts with spoon and eat. It leaves the whites actually cooked which is my big -ish. And the yolk not. Which is the only reason I want to eat s-b eggs.

Dude, there's even fic.

Have fun in Portland, if I don't talk to you again before then, Cass.

Heh.

Thanks, Debet. I will likely chicken* tomorrow away entirely trying to get ready for the trip. I should be writing myself a list. My lists should be writing themselves lists as well.
