MG, what does the grade change give you that the raise doesn't?

[NAFDA] Spike-centric discussion. Lusty, lewd (only occasionally crude), risque (and frisque), bawdy (Oh, lawdy!), flirty ('cuz we're purty), raunchy talk inside. Caveat lector.
Spidra, my thoughts and prayers are with your mom and you. That just sounds like so much and I know that you wish there was more you could do but you are doing a lot just by being there for her. ~ma.
I'll admit, I'm a little jealous of all this talk of car-giving-up.Me too. And living in in San Diego, it's dreaming the impossible dream.
Recognition more than anything. It is something I qualified for YEARS ago, but side A (my contract and program managers) didn't want me to be salaried, so as long as I had room in my pay range, side B (my accounting manager) was ok with leaving things as is. Well, now I've hit the top of my range. I've been in the same grade for close to 10 years and the grade I'm in is basically a clerical position while what I do is NOT clerical. I had assurances from three levels above side B that this time it would get changed and that they were not going to back down. Hah!!!
Plus, I only found out because *I* asked. No one came to me to explain what is happening or anything.
well, that's fucking lame ass, MG. I heartily support your assertion that they are, indeed, fuckers. And not telling you? What, did they just think you would forget about it if they didn't bring it up?

Gronk.
Gods save me from teething babies who think sleep is optional.
MG, they are, indeed fuckers, and I shall smite them.

I miss living a block away from the only efficient bus route in town. The nearest bus stop is a mile away from where we are now. I've done those sorts of walks before, but I'd rather not in the pre-dawn darkness of winter. I don't want to do it in the 100-plus afternoons of summer, either. Stupid high mountain deserts.
MG, congratulations on the raise. As for the grade, am I understanding you right when you say they blocked you from the change because you'd then be non-exempt? I got confused because I associated "salaried" with exempt status.
I prefer non-exempt myself because if I do overtime they better damned well pay me for it.
~ma for your mom, Spidra.
I don't completely understand the situation, MG, but am angry on your behalf. It sounds like if they don't up your grade, no more pay raises? That's just wrong. Besides the whole not getting the recognition you deserve or the job title that accurately reflects what you do, which also sucks.
Sorry for the sleeplessness, Aimee.
I like the idea of public transit a lot, but in practice I like to be on my own timetable and route so I mostly drive, I'm afraid. Now that we're down to one car, that may change.
I've got 7 hours to drive today but I can't get underway until (a) my property manager calls me back and tells me where to mail my rent check and (b) DH reaches a point in his work where he can be disconnected from the internet for a while. I thought he wa taking a vacation day today, but I guess not.
I get them mixed up myself Spidra. I'm currently hourly and would have been moving to salaried. I don't do much OT, and with our company, if your time is all client billable, even salaried people get paid OT, just not at time and a half.
