Repeating something I just told someone in my LJ:

The thing is, I can't believe it took me until Friday afternoon to really realize she thought I was saying that the words applied to her personally. It never even occured to me, as I would never consciously say such a thing. If I had realized it, I would have corrected it at the time. Of course, the fact that I wouldn't say the word likely made the whole thing seem worse.

It was certainly never my intent to imply that she herself reminded me of that name. It baffles me that I was such a dunderhead that I didn't catch that.

I really regret that I made someone feel bad, though, and can't help thinking I should have caught it. It really never crossed my mind until after I was fired that someone would think I was intentionally racist.

I am such a dweeb.

I didn't get it until I got home, and, for whatever reason, that address at home doesn't let me send out mail (I think it's an Apple issue or something). Is definitely maybe good enough until next week? I'm unsure of a lot of things until after this weekend.

Errors and misunderstandings between people is so popular in plays and movies. Not so much fun when you're involved in one.

Frank: Definitely maybe is fine. I totally understand that it's tough to plan right now!

DCJ: I can only imagine how hard this is; I can totally picture myself going over the situation over and over again after the fact, too. Please, please, please try to be kind to yourself. While it's good to come to terms with things, I just hope you are not kicking yourself while you are down.

Well, I'd love to stick around, but I've been on the computer for a couple hours and my family is staring at me like I've lost my mind. Didn't I have 4 billion things still on my list. Best get to that now.

My mother tells the story of holding her breath as I stomp my way up the drive singing "Eenie Meenie Minie Moe." It did all end with a tiger and not a nigger, but I know it was one of those moments where she was wondering why she ever let other people near me.

Daniel, I didn't get a chance to write yesterday, but I wanted to say how sorry I am that you got caught up in such a misunderstanding. Getting fired sucks, period. Just before Christmas is horrible and I'm sure having someone think you are a rascist is very upsetting also. (Gee, aren't I making you feel better!) I'm so sorry - I'm sending lots of warm Christmas vibes towards you. I'm glad you have Andi!

Feeling better this morning. I hope everyone has a good day. It's really been a crappy week for Buffistas. We deserve a nice holiday weekend.
