Apparently it's okay if the president wants to do it. Maybe it's because I've been watching Babylon 5 recently (I just finished season 4, it sure seems like they never expected to have a season 5), but I think this is a critical precedent not to set for the president.
I think I need to put on my weekend to do list: write to my senators and rep about this. Actual letters that I will fax and mail.

Woot! I haven't watched season 5 yet either, it just seems so... finished in many ways, I haven't had the impetus to search out the final season.

I watched the Battlestar Galactica recap ep last night--if anyone else who's a fan also watched it, am I all caught up to watch tonight's new ep? I've only seen a few scattered eps in the past, liked them, but didn't quite know what was going on (especially with the VP guy--whacko!).

Well, they don't give lots of details -- what was the last episode you saw? Because, of course, they left us with a big fat mid-season cliffhanger!
I saw an ep with the president running away from people, and another one with a female pilot under Starbuck's command getting hooked on some kind of drugs and then dying while trying to dock her ship on Galactica. I think that's about it, but I did tape most of the all-day marathon before Christmas, even though I haven't had the chance to watch the tape yet.
It might be better if I tape tonight's ep, watch the marathon tape, and then watch the new ep last.

Ummm, yes. And should that have been whitefonted? Has BSG aired everywhere else in the world?
Also, one church has an anti-war sermon [link] and it gets a letter from the IRS warning that it's tax-exempt status is at risk.
Another church has endorsed Bush from the pulpit and has offered it's church as the site of a pro-Alito rally [link] and it gets over a $1 million dollars in grants for faith-based initiatives.
