She also didn't realize she could pick up her neighbor's wireless connection on her laptop until I told her.

I have to fix up my dad's computer every single time I go there. This last time he'd finally gotten DSL (good), left the old dial-up program as the default connection (bad), and then gone all crack-headed and installed AOL (the fuck?).
I just did a daily face peel. So far, I haven't sampled anything (Fred Segal forced Kiehl's samples on me last time I shopped there too) that made me want to buy it -- but I love my current regimen, and look skeptically at everything else.

For spyware: Ad Aware is good, also Spybot.
BTW, install Spyware Blaster. It's supposed to prevent spyware from installing when you use Firefox or IE.
AVG is good for viruses, but I stopped using it when I got free McAfee access.
