I just made a fantastic (and easy) apple pie the other day, ita. Trader Joe's sells frozen pie crusts. Sans pie plate. You just thaw the crust, put it in your pan and fill. I sliced a couple heirloom variety apples, put a pat of butter in, cinnamon and some brown sugar. That's it. I like my fruit pies to be tart and fresh, not super-sugary. I reheated at work the next morning and all my co-workers were exclaiming about how great it smelled. It tasted wonderful, too.

Mr. Kipling's apple pies are a thing of their own, Spidra. They don't occupy the same conceptual space as a standard American apple pie--completely separate craving and satisfaction. They have the same pastry as the traditional English store-bought mince pie, for starters.

Besides perhaps using suet or lard as the fat ingredient in the crust, what's the difference in the pastry, if you can describe it?
Those are fantastic, ita!
