I've been out of the abbey two days, I've beaten a lawman senseless, I've fallen in with criminals. I watched the captain shoot the man I swore to protect. And I'm not even sure if I think he was wrong.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

It's the only time I've seen Nick Arrojo truly flummoxed by a head of hair. He just looked horrified, sitting there picking at it.

Oh god, that girl. Poor Nick did what he could...

My guess was, she had spent some of her chidlhood speaking Russian or something Slavic, and then moved to the US before age ten, so her accent is there but not strong.

Interesting. It was definitely something.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

Horlicks is more like Carnation Malted. I'm not sure what's in Ovaltine, except it tastes like crap. I do hate it.

I had a chocolate malted at the Charcoal Pit yesterday. It was delicious.

Happy Birthday, kat p!

How can you hate the Ovaltine? Nestle Quick. Now that stuff is heinous. But Ovaltine is the bomb-diggity.

I grew up with Ovaltine as the alternative to Milo. That's so no contest.

oh joy! Oh Rapture ! I have a brain!

We went out for Indian. I had not had any for awhile. I think it was intense food taste day. but my lemon bar reciepe is a bit too sweet for me. Almond chocolate truffles - intense. eggnog ice cream - nice. Now I want to try horlicks.

I wish I could just go somewhere to get flensed but none of the whaling ships near me take Medicare.

My friend's dad calls it "hostitchky" (sp?). Online, it's variously called "hoska" "houska" or "vanocka". It's a braided fruit bread. I've never found raised breads easy to make but this one is even harder for me since I've never tasted it as made by a Czech or Czech-American. So I'm not sure exactly what I'm going for. I was told by my friend's dad that the last batch I made was spot on, but I'm thinking he might have been salving my ego.

Here's a Radio Prague report (presumably by a non-Czech) on his experience making vanocka:

Oooh. That vanocka looks delicious. Good with some Ovaltine.

So ita, are you saying that you'd choose Milo over Ovaltine? Cause that there's just crazy talk.
