I was meh on the ep too, even though it supn some new mystery into the show.
Mostly, I was (and still am) bugged by how they all had magic electra-lite torches (or possbly a shitload of Bics) for when Zeke said LIGHT 'EM UP!
Also, I think Zeke was mostly anickname, but the look he gave Sawyer has me wondering at least a little if it was, in fact, his real name.
Also, I'm with Cindy on the Sun/Jin story. I can see why it would ping people gender-stereotype buttons, but I felt there was a different part of the story going on, which nullified that for me.
"When you came across the island, what side was the ocean on?"
Uh - all sides? I don't get the point of that question.
Right with you, sister. I mean, I got what you said in your eta section too, but still, I actually said, "All. It's an island," aloud, while watching
It's also a big island. Unless you are up high, you won't see both sides.
Lets say we think of the Losties as being on the North side of the island. We know to get to their camp the Tailies occasionally followed the shoreline, only inland. If the shoreline was on the left side of the party, they came up the west side of the Island. If the shoreline was on the right side of the group, they came up on the east side of the Island.
Since Locke was not with the group, he was asking in order to get an idea to compare Michael's current path with what the tailies had done.
After Jeremiah Crichton's comment about "That's an interesting theory" re: Ethan
At first I thought he was referring to Ethan, but after Zeke said "light 'em up" I decided that he was referring to Jack's remark about how there are a lot more Losties than there are Othersies.

It might be witches...

I think it was left ambiguous enough that it could be either. Which is OK by me.
Mostly, I'm sick of all the Jbackstory, so I'm hoping we've finally tapped out that particular vein (for this season, at least).

This is what I thought, too.

Any reason it can't be both?

Yeah.
The torch thing has bothered me from early on. You can't just light a handy stick and have that kind of light. Also, the Others have hung onto matches or lighters for this long?

I understood. That's what Jen said in the "eta" part of her post. I just thought it was a dumbly worded question.

Right. I can't remember Jack's exact wording, but it was all sort of intertwined. Jack was contending they didn't have too many people, because they had to rely on spies, such as Ethan. I took Zeke's comment and then the visual answer that he was hardly part of a tiny group, as both calling into question whether or not Ethan was with him, and saying, "Nyah nyah nyah--there are lots of other creepy people here, beside me."
