Canary Islands, javachik.
Ah ha, didn't catch that in the ep. Just knew that they were describing No. America as "The New World".
It was a whaddaya call it, subtitle type thing with the date and place. I thought it was interesting that it was an island.
Not when you think that the only location they have to shoot is on an island.
Ha! I didn't think of that. They shoot scenes that they say are on the US mainland all the time, though.
"There are certain sections of New York, Major, that I wouldn't advise you to try to invade. The parts with palm trees in the background, especially. It takes a certain kind of tropical plant to survive there."
Just rewatched Sundown.
Oh, SAYEED.
Someone named Marty over on TWoP just wrote:
The producers appear to have painted themselves into a bit of a corner because the Black Rock was the source of dynamite for several characters in the early seasons. Dynamite was not invented until 1866. That meant the ship's arrival at the Island had to be after the slave trade had been abolished in most places, making most of the logical early destinations now illogical.
I hate when the writers don't pay attention to stuff like this.
Yeah, the most prominent places that still had slave trading in 1867 (when Richard's flashback took place) were Cuba & Brazil, but why would an English speaker be of use in those places?
