I found the whole "Hey, they were standing just off-camera for all these key scenes THE WHOLE TIME" thing hilarious.
Lost 2: Tied to a Tree in a Jungle of Mystery

I loved the whole "Mistakes were made. We're sorry. We won't do it again. Nothing to see here. These aren't the Poochies you weren't looking for." on the part of the showrunners. It was so obvious it was funny as hell.
Interesting posts:
IT'S A CHESS MATCH! Think of it like this. If the board is left with a white king and black king, one cannot kill the other. It's a stalemate. But if you can add more pieces (bring more people to the island), there remains the possibility of a checkmate. A king can't kill a king, but another piece can. They've both been trapped in a stalemate for God knows how long. Why? Because the other "pieces" keep getting added to the board, but they just kill each other instead of going for the checkmate.

I think Esau is playing chess, where it's all about the king, and a pawn or two is no big sacrifice. Jacob may be playing backgammon, where you have to free all your pieces. It's kinda like the contrast between "Live together, die alone" and "Every man for himself."
Ooh, where are you getting these posts?

edited link to start at the originating post. There's other contributions scattered throughout all the OMG WHY DIDN'T SAWYER NOT NOTICE KATE'S NAME WASN'T THERE!!!1! posts. I hate that people don't read before posting.
It's a Backgammon [game]: 4, 8, 15, 16, 23, & 42 happen to be the numbers [points] needed in order to win the game. >[link]
So, as for backgammon, any number up to 24 could be the triangles, anything up to 12 could be the dice
The doubling cube is in multiples of 4, but 42 isn't anywhere in backgammon, is it?
hmm. I didn't realize that dice rolls in backgammon can have the following notation:
"Dice rolls are shown either as "4-2" or "42", denoting a roll of four on one die and two on the other."
(from wikipedia on backgammon notation)
What if the bomb going off on top of that pocket of energy changed the timeline in a different way than we have been assuming? Because that energy-pocket messed with time when it was released by the button not being pushed, so maybe the island was sunk earlier (or later) than we think.
If Sun gets to the temple and Jin is out in the jungle looking for her and they still don't reunite I will be so mad.
I've seen speculation on another board that Sawyer's parents are not dead. If that's the case, maybe it's tied to Locke's changed relationship with his father, since his father was the con man that caused the death of Sawyer's parents.
