I can see how this works with Desmond and recovering a memory in the, erm, Nowness of it (see my previous comments about the Frequency* (Dennis Quaid, Jim Caviezal movie) style of crossing timelines, but, being physically ... oh, hmm, yeah, that could work, if the body is suddenly remembering a physical event, and psyches itself out.
Refresh my memory, though, because I'm remembering Locke having major issues with both his legs, not something that would reflect one single injured leg. But I could be wrong.
Anyhow, if it pans out, definitely way cool.
*two timelines momentarily coincide in the same "Now", and as the future Now influence the past Now, things change in the Future Now at the exact moment it coincides with the Past Now. Erm... two trains traveling on parrallel tracks, one is the past, one is the future. The track is the present and whatever happens on those tracks to those two trains happens simultaneously in the Now, even though one is still the Past Train, and one is the future Train. So the people on the island skipping through time, they're still in the NOW, and whatever they do or cause won't be remembered or known till the Now for the Oceanic 6 & Co.

Because I can't sleep, I've tracked the ep in question (re: Locke's leg issues leading up to Boone's death) down, Deux ex Machina.
Hit a scene about 24 minutes in where Boone bitches about what's wrong with Locke's leg, and Locke replies that it's the shrapnel wound acting up, and Boone declares, "that was your right leg, what's wrong with your left?" Now to recheck "Because You Left"
. . . Locke gets shot in his right leg. Hmmm. Maybe the had the film/digital flipped? Or to handwave it would be the body being dyslexic and flipping the injury?
I thought we were all to assume that his old injury was flaring up. I never did think too much about any leg problems he experienced because he couldn't walk before he hit the island!
LOVE Locke. When Batmanuel gave Locke the compass and told Locke to give it to him the next time they met, was that referring the flashback when Batmanuel went to child!Locke's house with some story about "gifted children," and laid out a bunch of objects that Locke had to pick from (I can't even remember why anymore), and when child!Locke picked the compass, it creeped Batmanuel out so much that he left? [WAS that child!Locke in the flashback?]
I just want to note that child!Locke didn't pick the compass; he picked the knife, so Batmanuel went away disappointed, but yeah, that's where the compass is coming from.

Lil' Locke picks the vial of sand and the compass, both of which seem to please Richard. And then he picks the knife. Richard asks him if he's sure about the knife. He is. Richard looks profoundly disappointed, snatches the knife out of Lil' Locke's hand, and packs up the rest of the items.
