Except for the fact that none of the promos even hinted that they were doing a wacky time-travel ep! Which, well, I was glad of, because that made it more surprising. I like previews to get me excited, but I don't actually need them to make me watch the next episode of a show I'm watching regularly.

Oh, I know P-C - but it suggests the regular audience tuned in, and then tuned out. It lost, like, 3 million viewers in one week. Something made them switch off.
Jack/Kate/Sawyer drama, maybe?
I mean, isn't a drop in ratings more a result of the quality of the previous episode? (Not that this explains SCC's dropping ratings, because it's been consistently pretty damn good.)
Count me among those who thought last night's was one of the best episodes in at least the last 2 seasons.
The editing was really tight, too, especially as the switches between past and present became more and more intense.
The editing was fantastic. I loved the transitions between the two times.
And it's interesting that not only is the Desmond/Penny thing really sweet...but also it's basically the reason the Lostaways are going to get off the Island.

Me too. Had just the right amount of Jack (3 seconds?), and Kate and Sawyer (0 seconds).
I really enjoyed last night's episode but would not have watched it if I didn't read here that it was so good. I disliked last week's episode that much.
Except for the 'You just totally Scoobie'd me, didn't you?" line, I was bored and bored some more.
Kate doesn't move me unless she's being heroic and last week...especially in that startling make up, the character did nothing to engage me.
So, yay y'all and your squeeing, because I adore Desmond and felt like this episode actually had something to say. Ya know, answer-wise.
I felt bad for Fisher's sad, and short lived (or is he?) character arclet. But, oh my, the pay off of the Penny love really made me happy.
I think we are going to see Fisher Stevens in flashbacks. They couldn't have bothered to hire him for such little screen time.
Okay, I watched the episode.
Two nitpicks: the accents were bloody awful. Also, the scene at the beginning on the helicopter - you can see the green screen! I don't just mean slightly - there's loads of it and it's bright green.
That said - it rocked. I can see exactly why it rated low (I suspect a portion of the audience was probably very confused), but it was very well put together. The 'constant' idea was wonderful, and the final phone call was nothing short of beautifully done.
