A ghost? What's the deal? Is every frat on this campus haunted? And if so, why do people keep coming to these parties, cause it's not the snacks.

Never fall in love with somebody you actually love.

Why do the numbers need to be entered, though?

Some hoo-hah about discharging magnetic energy build-up, blah blah blah. And when Desmond didn't enter the numbers when flight 815 was flying over the island, the magnetic energy mojo blah blah blah apparently caused the plane to crash.

As far as we know.

Yeah, I remember the episode, but I didn't really think it explained it. As, how do those numbers stop discharging magnetic energy?

Suddenly, the black cancer in the X-Files seems to make sense..

The odd/interesting thing was, the Others reacted to the build-up shakey-shakey like an earthquake (which is why I was faked into thinking they were in California until they showed the plane break up) - that is, not a common occurence, but not an uncommon one either.

Suddenly, the black cancer in the X-Files seems to make sense..

Actually, black cancer did kind of make sense (at least it did to me at the time) but then they had to go change everything after that too.

Hmmm. Perhaps everything going on in LOST is that fault of the Jebuslug.

Or the butt genie.

"I remember when they eventually introduced that drug kingpin who murdered people and smuggled drugs inside snakes and I was like 'Finally. A normal person.'” —RahvinDragand

They never explained how that plane crash left nearly 70 survivors when everyone except maybe a stewardess belted into the extreme rear should have been quisinarted, did they?

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

The plane crashed because the numbers weren't entered. The numbers must be entered so the thing that crashes the plane doesn't happen.

Technically, I can call these answers.

However, why do you have to enter numbers to prevent that happening? The one answer I can point to as satisfied is "Does entering the numbers have any actual material effect?"

Yes, yes it does. The rationale beyond that is murky and inconclusive, but one should keep entering the numbers.

Because it discharges the magnetic hoo-hah mojo build-up.

According to Desmond. (Or maybe not!Kelvin. I disremember.)
