I accept that Sayid is Iraqi. My guess is that Naveen is of Indian descent, but I'm too lazy to google. I'm pretty sure I read somewhere he was British. Other than the unfortunate pairing with Shannon I like his character so I just accept the Iraqi thing. There are very few Arabs in my community so it doesn't jump out at me.
Naveen's English, of Indian extraction, but I'm prepared to retcon his physicality on the basis of there being people in the Middle East who don't look particularly Arab per se. Plus - yay for Naveen being on
Lost,
and sometimes being shirtless. (In my plan, everyone is shirtless.)
The thing that makes me & flatmate go ???!!!??? is having several characters randomly describe him (just from his appearance) as looking Arab, rather than Indian. It's like casting Charisma Carpenter to play a Mexican - which, okay, I could retcon, but I'd boggle at having Joe Redshirt assume she was Mexican just from
looking
at her.
I'll not go on about it though - I just wondered whether it pinged USians to the extent that it would in Britain. Evidently not.

It pinged me so very much for the first few eps, Fay. I remember saying something along the lines of him probably being from Bradford, not Baghdad. It was easy enough to just go with it after a bit though.
Yeah - I mean, I'm just happy to have him there, being hot and conflicted.
A little bit of Lost news during this new-episode-deprived week...
Javier Grillo-Marxuach will be leaving the writing team of Lost after Season Two.
Somewhat refreshingly, he broke this news himself in his blog: Link.
Hey, Partyman, I'll be attending this dealie-o on Saturday. Want I should tell him anything for you?

That workshop thing sounds like an excellent thing to be attending! Shiny.
Heh, just tell him I said "Hi" and that I send mandangoes! :)
How cool that Ann Arbor has an "826" branch!
Matthew Fox was on the Daily Show last night and was Giggles McLaughalot. It was alternately charming and disturbing.
He also insisted that the writers have a master plan and are not making it up as they go along.

Of course, he also admitted that he didn't actually know what the plan was, so he only has their word for it.
Yeah, that occurred to me as well.
