That was entertaining stuff, but it was just CHB being CHB. Good for some laughs, but that's all.

Needless to say, all of these stories are sourced anonymously and there's no telling if there's any truth to any of them. But who are these sources? At the very least, there seem to be a fair number of people who can be plausibly labeled "insiders" and who are gleefully passing along rumors of serious presidential angst. What's going on?

Human Events is more likely the "number one conservative mouthpiece" or whatever. Let's not forget the Wash Times, while unquestionably deeply conservative, is owned by the Moonies, not the GOP.

Well, Moonies are strange people sometimes. I've seen some of the most entertaining tabloidesque paranoid screamers in the Times. They're funnier than my own local tabloid, but the Herald makes up for it with people who are often brusquely and foolishly, but ardently, devoted to the topics they cover.
I did not think that I could come to love tabloids, until I taught myself to see them as luridly OTT performance art. They're not all that for news (although sometimes have pretty good sports departments), but they'll certainly tell you a lot about the fracture lines in a culture.
