I made blueberry muffins, but I forgot to add the blueberries. Possibly this indicates that I might need more sleep or something.
Natter 40: The Nice One
Off-topic discussion. Wanna talk about corsets, duct tape, or physics? This is the place. Detailed discussion of any current-season TV must be whitefonted.
Not least because an illiterate 14 year old will have a much harder time learning to read than an illiterate person of younger age. The reason you go to school at a tender age is so that civilization can print all its little keys into your tender soap-bar. There's also the part where it's got to be pretty humiliating, trying to learn to read as an adult and realizing that second graders might have more mastery than you.
The Lockean idea of the Noble Savage doesn't seem as noble when being mocked by 8 year olds, does it?
I understand the concept that some children learn on their own and that some young children do, in fact, teach themselves to read. But I wouldn't trust that to chance for some hippy, granola idea that I'd be ruining my kid by pushing them to read before they hit puberty.
"I ain't got time to bleed."
I came this close to quoting that initially because it is one of DH's favorite movie lines ever. Along with, "I came here to kick ass and chew bubble gum. And I'm all out of bubble gum."
You just think L&O is cool because you've not seen "The Wire" yet. But my mother will not allow me to watch L&O with her now because I ruin it.
Like this:
"Oh, right, like they'd have the warrant that fast. In Disneyland, maybe."
"David Simon says they only find the gun in 30 percent of Baltimore murders...that piece would be in the East River so fast.."
Et fucking cetera.
But she loves me anyway, even if I tell her Emperor Dick Wolf is naked.
ETA: However, krav has not been featured on the Wire yet. It has been on KOTH and Malcolm in The Middle, though.
You just think L&O is cool because you've not seen "The Wire" yet.
Hey, I said krav was cool, not L&O. They put The Wire on my screen when I'm sitting around on Saturday night wanting to veg on the couch, I'll be right there.
And krav is cool.
Krav is cool. The Wire is cool.
Brenda, ita, and erika are cool.
What is the fuss about?
Krav is cool. NSM a veg on the couch show, The Wire. Wicked arc-y for that. That is why L&O is on so many seasons and the Wireheads are a bunch of tough talking cultish geeks. I still like L&O but it's kind of like hanging out with your seventh grade BFF for me now.
Yeah, why don't we listen to Gus more often, anyway?
L&O is practically meditation for me by now. It's so completely the same that it just requires a sort of low-grade back of the mind attention while I'm actually doing or thinking about something else. It's very soothing.
The Wire, yeah, not so much. But again, not something they put on my screen.
Which reminds me, I want to pick up the S3 Oz one of these days.
Ugh. I managed my whole life until this moment not to see goatse.cx. I am going to have to scrub my brain with Jesus is Magic.
One of the great regrets of my "career" will be not being able to put a wisecrack in Lennie Briscoe's mouth, except for fanfic. That sucks.
