I always thought the name Serenity had a vaguely funereal sound to it.

Spike's Bitches 27: I'm Embarrassed for Our Kind.

[NAFDA] Spike-centric discussion. Lusty, lewd (only occasionally crude), risque (and frisque), bawdy (Oh, lawdy!), flirty ('cuz we're purty), raunchy talk inside. Caveat lector.

Bob's learned to live with tragedy, but he knows that this tragedy is one that won't ever leave him or get better.

Emily's talking math. Aren't you all jealous?
Actually yeah.

I have a cat loaf across my chest. Arm is pinned and I can't see the keyboard. Takes me about three tries to get my fingers on the right letters to type.

It's nice to see some brave pretenders trying to make it interesting.

When I moved in January last year a bottle of red wine got left in my car. The smell does fade, although I was a little worried for a couple of weeks. No police stoppages, though, so I was in the clear. The bottle is fine, but the cork popped right out through the foil top. Which was fortunate, in that the wine wasn't something I was planning to drink but the bottle was decorative.

I've worked hard today, and yet I was unable to make the cranky pants disappear. Started out with no water because the pipes froze overnight, and really didn't get much better than that. (Although fortunately the pipes unfroze about 12:30 today.)

"In the equation E = mc⬧, c⬧ is a pretty big honking number." - Scola

Yeah, I never understood in chem classes why it was OK if we were averaging like, 60%, and that was expected. Cause really, shouldn't we be focusing on actually LEARNING the shit?

Well, I think there's a limit to how much you can absorb (different for different people at different times in their lives with different subjects et cetera), and the goal of the test is to make sure you absorbed the fundamentals -- but for some teachers, they also want to know who's getting everything as well.

Mind you, 60% seems low. But if 60% is okay with the teacher, that means the teacher designed the test so that 60% would be the average if things were going the way he or she wanted.

Cereal:

She doesn't seem to want petting, she just wants to gently lean on me. She doesn't do this to my BF. I never had a dog, but I assume this is a form of dog schmoop, am I right?

Depends on how hard she's leaning. Sometimes this means (especially if the dog doesn't do it to the man who lives there) that the dog's trying to establish dominance. Or so I've heard.

Now let us crush something soft and watch it fountain blood. That is a girlish thing to want to do, yes?

Nah, that sounds like dog schmoop. Dominance leaning is more of a trying to shove you out of the way vibe.

Sometimes I think I might just move up to Vermont, open a bookstore or a vegan restaurant. Adam Schlesinger, z''l

I am a dork. I just added an "I'm too pretty to do math" t-shirt to my list of stuff I want for Chanukah.

Hey. New board.

Yeah, I never understood in chem classes why it was OK if we were averaging like, 60%, and that was expected. Cause really, shouldn't we be focusing on actually LEARNING the shit? But nooooo....

I intend, as a teacher, if I can possibly pull it off, to plan my tests around a 50% goal average.

Yes: 50%. In high school.

Why? Because, based on experience, undertesting is much worse than overtesting. That is: if I plan a test so hard that 50% is average, I can get a good sense of not only who's really BAD at it (with acceptance for such variables as carelessness), but also who's really GOOD. So good they may know even more than I actually taught. Thus, the 50% goal. Nice in a math class.

Of course, the kids will be aware of this before they begin. And also that I'll be upping the scores as necessary: 50% will be whatever my school considers "average" (a B? a B-? a C? I think it depends on the school.)

I... am not sure why I just went off on that. I came here to say: Whoo! I am done with 2 of my 5 classes! Tomorrow I will finish a third (the easiest, though, so no big deal)! My hardest one is over on Monday, and I'm done completely in a week, but that's not stopping me from celebrating now!

Also, I am drunk.

I spell good for a drunk guy, huh?

Once, I had an entire conversation with my mother so blitzed that I didn't remember it (or, rather, the contents - I knew I had the conversation itself, luckily) the next day. I spelled everything right. When I read the log, I sounded sober even to myself. Except that I told her about my tongue piercing. Which, really, I needed to do anyway before I went home, so bravo drunk me!

I may have been more talkative than usual. Like... now.

Also, guys, I... am really, seriously, painfully in love. It kind of hurts, in that good way. I mean, I go out drinking when she's studying and, after an hour or so, it loses its luster. She's not there. What's the point? But I can watch her stress out over a final for hours, and never get bored. So. Weird. But good. I dunno.

Who knows a good fairly left-wing (for them) Orthodox Rabbi in NYC I could get in touch with, y'know?
