Huh.
Finally caught up and ready to try to stay current again (Hi Everyone!). To open, I present a question...
Does anyone know the etymology of the phrase "call a spade a spade"? I just used it in conversation with an African-American co-worker, and I'm suddenly concerned that I've been horribly offensive (I swear, I was thinking of playing cards!).
Comments?
Also, hugs and -ma as required. I have missed chatting here.
hey, epic. good to see you. I would actually have to look that up. If no one comes up with anything I will do so at work , just to keep from being boooooorrrrrrrreeeeeeed.
So, uh...vwbug, am I being shipped to you, or are you coming to get me?
Um...we haven't worked that out yet. I do have some time...I think I'll come get you.
Also, I'm a package deal with Monstro Bookcase O' Doom and all the books. And the comic books.
And if Aimee thinks that I'm just going to leave the Batcomputer behind and let HCJ play "The Incredibles" while I'm not? She is of the nuts.
Wheeeeeee I get the Monstro Bookcase O'Doom and the books and the comic books and the Batcomputer! This is the best deal EVAH!
ION, apparently, I can no longer dress myself. I left the house and made it through an entire class before I realized my shirt was on backwards.
According to this site, [link] there is nothing offensive, Epic, but I am not sure if it hasn't taken on another meaning in this country.
This site, [link] agrees with Perkins' site.
Pret a Manger does a "holiday sandwich" that's basically American Thanksgiving surrounded by bread. It's fantastic. And HUGE.
That would be so massively helpful, but I don't think there's one in Sheffield. Shouldn't be too hard to put together a turkey sandwich though. I cook Christmas dinner for twelve people every year, and that usually works out. Again, with the liberal application of alcohol. And speaking of, good luck to all the cooks tomorrow!
Thanks Perkins and ChiKat! I feel somewhat better (and have decided that I imagined a "look" on his face immediately after I said it). Though I have decided to bookmark it as "use with caution" in my brain.
Hey beth! Good to be seen! Want me to make up something else for you to research to stave off boredom?
My holiday cooking has been made easier by the nice folks at Gelsons. Even so, I just made a couple loaves of pumpkin bread. I decided to modify a banana bread recipe. Since I've never made it before, I hope it turns out.
now I want pumpkin bread. And my shepard's pie/pot pie ( see natter).
I want to know where my mom hid the yeast. I assumed I'd be able to find it by the time the milk was scalded and cooled, but alas, no. Maybe I'll just start the mushrooms in the meantime and hope she calls back.
