Finally caught up and ready to try to stay current again (Hi Everyone!). To open, I present a question...

Does anyone know the etymology of the phrase "call a spade a spade"? I just used it in conversation with an African-American co-worker, and I'm suddenly concerned that I've been horribly offensive (I swear, I was thinking of playing cards!).

ION, apparently, I can no longer dress myself. I left the house and made it through an entire class before I realized my shirt was on backwards.

Pret a Manger does a "holiday sandwich" that's basically American Thanksgiving surrounded by bread. It's fantastic. And HUGE.

That would be so massively helpful, but I don't think there's one in Sheffield. Shouldn't be too hard to put together a turkey sandwich though. I cook Christmas dinner for twelve people every year, and that usually works out. Again, with the liberal application of alcohol. And speaking of, good luck to all the cooks tomorrow!

My holiday cooking has been made easier by the nice folks at Gelsons. Even so, I just made a couple loaves of pumpkin bread. I decided to modify a banana bread recipe. Since I've never made it before, I hope it turns out.

now I want pumpkin bread. And my shepard's pie/pot pie ( see natter).

I want to know where my mom hid the yeast. I assumed I'd be able to find it by the time the milk was scalded and cooled, but alas, no. Maybe I'll just start the mushrooms in the meantime and hope she calls back.
