"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

Happy Birthday, Kate!

::seriously fusses Kate up::

Allyson, don't lose heart. You're an excellent writer - you've got such a distinctive voice. It'll find an outlet.

JZ is seriously bereft that we can't attend a Halloween event next weekend with zombie go-go dancers.

The more I learn, the more I realize how little I know.

It's amazing what dogs endure.

Wait, is this real-world child support, where the money goes to buy food for the kids, or MRA fantasyland child support where the women just buy Ferraris and cocaine? -Jessica

Thank you for encouragement. One publisher wrote and said it was presumptuous of me to compare my work to Sarah Vowell, who is beloved.

And I thought, but I'm not really comparing my work to her at all, I'm just saying it's a collection of essays about unusual subject matter. Bitch.

You're beloved too. Just on a smaller scale, right now.

Good Trouble and Righteous Fights

Ouch.

I seem to remember looking at your query letter over in GWW, and it was definitely, "my work might appeal to readers who enjoy Sarah Vowell," and not, "I am the next Sarah Vowell."

Ouch.

t commences worrying about having the effrontery to rattle off the names of four authors who've probably published over 100 books between them and are probably beloved by somebody in my own query letters that I just started sending out last week

And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

Turn it up, turn it dowwwwn / Turn it up when the cold brings you down / When the heat bothers you, turn it down / Turn it up turn it dowwwwwn / As I was just saying...

We theoretically control the heat in our apartment even though we don't pay for it (the thermostat for the entire building just happens to be in our apartment), but I think the landlord has to turn on something in the boiler room first, because it's set at 68-70, and hasn't kicked in once yet. And I *know* it's cold in here.

Why did Darth Vader cross the road? To get to the Dark Side!

poor pooch!

Also wrt that publisher's comment, I think it demonstrates that tact is not a job requirement for editors. I don't get why some people are rude when they really don't need to be.

Shit's all sorts of different now.

Same reason some people are President when they really don't need to be?

is there an electoral college for editors too? That would explain some of the stuff I've read.
