That man was going to shank me. Over an omelette. Two eggs and a slice of government cheese. Is that what my life is worth?

Happy Birthday, Kate P.!!!!!

I remember the crazy days. 500 posts an hour. Nubmer! Natgbsb

I do not control my heat, although there are cute little knobs on the radiators that taunt you with their seeming usefulness. It kicked on either Thurday or Friday. It is on a weird cycle that usually has me cold by bedtime, but waking up hot around 5am. I did not have a termometer last year, but do this year, so I can track actual temps. My hope is to adjust cute knobs to almost off positions and have only wee heat until more is needed.

Another day, another rejection. I'm down to two left to tell me no.

Allyson, my papers have been rejected hundreds of times. The same is true of the rocket scientists that you work with. You just have to believe in what you are doing and keep trying until the world catches up with you.

I've read your excerpts. Your work is fresh and funny and insightful. It will find a publisher.

Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

Zombie flash mob hits Madison: [link]

At 2pm on Saturday, October 22, zombie fans will assemble in full costume to kick off Zombie Lurch 2005. Join us! We'll meet on the Capitol steps (Carroll/Mifflin side), shamble down State Street with stops for tasty brains and beverages, and end at the Union Terrace for even more beverages.

To add a particularly Madisonian touch, it's not just a Zombie Walk but a Zombie Protest. Fight for zombie rights by bringing a protest sign, sandwich board, or customized t-shirt. With slogans like Let Zombies Walk!, The undead are people too! Open your heart and mind to zombies, or even an eloquent ARGH, we'll raise public consciousness for the plight of our cannibalistic brothers and sisters. What do we want? BRAINS! When do we want it? BRAINS!

recap: [link]

The range of makeup, costumes, vocal groaning enthusiasm, and clever protest signs was awe-inspiring. There was no way I could stay in character in the face of People for the Ethical Treatment of Zombies, Show Me Your Brains (complete with Mardi Gras beads), Brains 3:16, and Support Proposition I-8U. There were many more brilliant slogans: look through the photo galleries for examples.

"Mister Spock is on his fanny, sir. Reports heavy damage."

OMG Laura is getting mooned by a hurricane!!

In slightly more dignified news, happy birthday to Kate! Hurry and celebrate now, since the same rude hurricane seems headed directly for us, so that the mooning and cold rain may continue.

We have the wall kind, also known as the warm-your-butt kind. But we fear that wee ones will try to touch them, so we tell Franny that the heaters are very "owie."

oh joy! Oh Rapture ! I have a brain!

happy birthday kateP.

have you turned on your heat yet? How do you decide when to turn on the heat? What do you set the thermostat to?

Not on yet. 62 - 63 when I wake up in the morning, but it usually warms up so with window opening I can get the house to 67/68. Not toasty , but ok.

in the winter 60 when no one is home. 68 when we are. it has been 65 at night. I think we are going to drop it at night and use the eletric balnket.

When will I turn on the heat? When I can't get the house over 62 durring the day. or we wake up to house colder than 60. mid november is the hope.
