As stories pushing the Plame investigation higher up the chain of command swirl about -- Cheney's face is on CNN right now -- perhaps it would be wise to remember this. The Bush White House is full of masterful spinners, and they're good at playing the expectations game. Maybe they're really concerned that Cheney will be indicted or at least implicated in Plame's outing. But maybe they know that, if they get enough people thinking that Cheney may face charges, the indictment of a Karl Rove or a Scooter Libby might suddenly come off as no big thing.

My guess is that this is what's going on.

OTOH, a Cheney resignation might finally shut those up who are saying that there was nothing wrong with outing Plame.

So I have long skirts and have every intention of wearing them this winter, but where, oh where, did the wool tights of yesteryear go? I found two pair in a sock store in the Pittsburgh airport, but they were Betsey Johnson and around $30 each. Come on, people! Winter skirts, wool tights! What's so hard about this concept?

Okay, granted, it looks like I can find them online. But I'd really rather buy them in person!

Note the first: If they don't have feet, they're not tights. So say I.

My coworker has been expecting a Cheney bombshell of one kind or another for a while now, with his cooperation, to clear a space at the top for an heir-apparent. Another possibility, I guess. I'll wonder if Cheney isn't indicted (because I don't think he'd go that far), but decides to step down with some vague words about responsibility at the top.

Hmm. In my mind, Cheney and Rove are politically equivalent this term, president pro tem aside. An indictment of either would taint the administration irrevocably. OTOH, maybe these rumors were masterminded by Andy Card too.

ETA: if the rumors are in any way being spun by TPTB, they should have just gone the ill health route. The foundation has already been laid for it-- it seems consequence-free.
