hey Techie types, I was just told to come up with an alternate term for Master/Slave (for some documents we worked on for months and just published last week...grrrr). All I can find (in an admittedly brief search) was stuff about the controversy of coming up with alternate terms for Master/Slave. Lots of outraged programmers or whatever decrying political correctness. I couldn't find any actual suggestions for alternatives. It's very frustrating. Does anybody have any ideas?

Off-topic discussion. Wanna talk about corsets, duct tape, or physics? This is the place. Detailed discussion of any current-season TV must be whitefonted.
although I honestly pity "true" conservatives who support Bush only because of the possibility of setting the next generations's Court agenda and were royally fucked by this.
I can't say as I do. I find the nomination a bit baffling however because I can't see what the political gain is for Bush.

Dom/sub? Master/Apprentice?
Yeah, I've heard about the controvesy - I can't come up with anything either.
Somepeople don't like the term 'motherboard' either.
primary/secondary?
Lisah - Boss/Lackey, Majordomo/Samurai, Big Enchilada/Small Fries
primary/secondary?
Aren't the two controllers on a typical Intel system called primary and seconday? (And each controller then can have a master and a slave drive.)
eta: Yes, above is correct.
Big Chief/Brave?
I need to roll my eyes at the controversy, myself.

There. I feel a little better now. Can't you just call them primary/secondary? I know I've seen that before.
Can't you just call them primary/secondary?
That would possibly be confusing, with a primary and secondary controller each having a primary and secondary drive.
tommy, WhatIs says:
In computer networking, master/slave is a model for a communication protocol in which one device or process (known as the master) controls one or more other devices or processes (known as slaves). Once the master/slave relationship is established, the direction of control is always from the master to the slave(s). The County of Los Angeles, saying the term master/slave may be offensive to some of its residents, has asked equipment manufacturers not to use the term. Some manufacturers prefer the term primary/secondary.
So it may be acceptable usage.
Frank/Tim? Nah...just being a H:LOTS geek.
