Hi Raq. Happy Greece Day! How long is your assignment there anyhow, do you know?
In the spirit of R A N D O M, I was at a friend's house the other day. She had a birth announcement on her fridge. Her friends had had a little girl. I notice the baby's name is something like Sunna Ólafsdóttir. So, I asked my friend, "Is that literally Olaf's daughter?"
She said it was. Her friends are in the States, but are from Iceland, and plan to return there to settle, long term. My friend said the naming convention there apparently is still Given Name + [Dad's Given Name + Son/Dottir]. So, right now, nobody in the family has the same name. The wife's last name is her dad's name + dottir. The husband's last name is his dad's name + son. They have a son, and his last name is Olafsson. The little girl's name is Olafsdottir.
Very cool. And I'm just in love with 'dottir'.

3 years, so Two To Go, as they say. The first 6 months of this year took FOREVER, and the last 6 months took about a week. I think Mallory might've had something to do with that.
Speaking of, Mal and Cthulhu: [link]
I was reading an article on the human genome that said Icelanders have approximately the same genetic diversity as the cheetah population, which is to say, not much. As a result they are more susceptible to things like osteoporosis. (Just continuing Free Association Day in Bitches).
Also, I met a woman named Kalliope yesterday. Cool name. I've met several Kalypsos, also a cool name.
Oh, that Mal. He's a heartbreaker!
Timelies! I'm back up for the day.
Meep! Lethal cuteness!

That makes sense, in general, and where osteoporosis is concerned in particular. People of Northern Euro descent are far more susceptible to it. My theory is that for generation upon generation, people didn't enough sunlight, which ties into that whole vitamin D/calcium/rickets/etc. stuff. Of course, I don't know why they wouldn't have evolved to need less, but maybe there's just not been enough time. Luckily, my theories do not need to make sense.
Wheeeeee! I'm so excited about a project that I'm doing for school. Deena helped me come up with it last night, and I think it's just going to be fabulous.
Poptarts:
I'm currently doing something ILLEGAL for said project, AIFG! Who knew being a rebel could be so much fun?!
Go bug, you bad bad thing!
It's all in the name of research.
edit: That just dumbed down my rebel self, huh?
See, doing something illegal as
research
is the mark of the Criminal Mastermind. Run-of-the-mill criminals just do illegal things to do them.
Speaking of masterminds, a book for Gud and MM: [link]
Oooooo...I'm a Criminal Mastermind! How cool is that?!
Apparently, though, I'm a Criminal Mastermind who really should be writing her lab report.
