You know, my big sister could really beat the crap out of her. I mean, really really.

Spike's Bitches 26: Damn right I'm impure!

[NAFDA] Spike-centric discussion. Lusty, lewd (only occasionally crude), risque (and frisque), bawdy (Oh, lawdy!), flirty ('cuz we're purty), raunchy talk inside. Caveat lector.

Because books.

Jesus, Deena. What an ass he is.

Oh bob, THE bob, the clue bell tolls for thee.

This. So very, very much.

Also? People who think quitting smoking is something you can just do, no problem, any old day you like? Also need the biggest cluestick ever.

All that was assigned in the first week and is due this week. For 2 classes.

That's a lot of homework, ChiKat.

brillig

For me there's both the "it's so generic it's worse than a bad song" thing and the meta of the fact that Jefferson Airplane did a lot of good stuff back in the day and even Jefferson Starship had some songs I don't mind. Starship was Grace Slick singing bad hair metal and, as such, means the 60s aren't just dead - it's been sold for parts on the black market.

So because someone who was an icon of the 60s is singing in a format that some people don't like, that invalidates the song even more? Another point I don't get. But I've long been accused of being lacking in musical taste.

Life moves pretty fast. You don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.

Teppy--my dad's doctor told us to leave my dad alone, because nagging made the problem with US rather than with the smoking. We could set limits, like don't smoke in the house or whatever, but telling him he should quit or reminding him he almost died after the first heart attack, etc. was wasted breath and actually made it easier for him to avoid the issue.

How are you me? You need to stop that. Only I can be me. ~Kara

Oh bob, THE bob, the clue bell tolls for thee.

I think I sprained something laughing. Thanks, Tep.

I think all doctors ahould ask their patients every time they come in when they are going to quit smoking.

My new doctor did this and gave me homework: Make a list of all the pros and cons of smoking so we can talk about it next time I come in. I rather like her approach.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

It just makes them seem very hypocrital, hence distasteful. Jefferson Airplane was the most articulate band espousing the hippie values, quite radical and stood against everything a corporate rock hit "We Built This City" represents. It's sort of like somebody singing a song called "Peace Train" turning around and advocating assassination.

So because someone who was an icon of the 60s is singing in a format that some people don't like, that invalidates the song even more?

Well, I mainly think it's terrible song, period, and bad in a way that's not even interesting - the meta of having a 60s icon involved is just a "gift with purchase".

I personally don't think it's the worst song in the history of the world (or however dw put it) - that would imply it's more interesting than I think it is.

eta Also, what Hec said. He articulated my point on the meta better than I ever could. But it's the soulless, corporate aspect that makes me hate it, no matter who did it. Bombast I don't mind so much.
