They changed their name to The Tops when a previous member died -- the same guys had sung together for over 40 years IIRC, which is a hell of a lot of harmony and friendship.
Buffista Music III: The Search for Bach
There's a lady plays her fav'rite records/On the jukebox ev'ry day/All day long she plays the same old songs/And she believes the things that they say/She sings along with all the saddest songs/And she believes the stories are real/She lets the music dictate the way that she feels.
Especially at Motown, where most lead singers eventually went solo.
I remember when "Reach Out" was a Top 40 hit and it seemed like the most impassioned and driving vocal I'd ever heard.
Levi Stubb's Tears
That song never doesn't make me cry.
Aww, damn. Wasn't he the voice of Audrey II?
He was.
And a fine Audrey he was. "Feed me, Seymour!"

Norman Whitfield, who was also namechecked in that song, also passed away recently.

I always wanted to write an article about Norman, but settled for my piece on the late Temptations record, 1990, in Lost in the Grooves. What a great songwriter and producer.
"Smiling Faces" is so sinister.
*Please* tell me someone will be taking video!
Ayup, most likely. And I hope in a digital format for easy YouTube action.
We saw Tegan and Sara last night (and are seeing them again tonight). It was a good show, but they are doing way too much pandering to the crowd. Having the crowd start songs, sing along, etc. That drives me crazy. They also had Matt Sharp (Weezer) come out and he has always bugged the shit out of me. He has always seemed like a self-important ass. Sara was treating him like a God, which was also a bit annoying. I mean, we all loved Weezer but save your adoration for Rivers Cuomo, man.
In shallow news, I liked Sara's new haircut, which DW deemed "Flock of Seagulls." She looked adorable in it. Also happy that Tegan was more in the lead seat during this show - she is my fave both in songwriting and baby-dyke adorability.

That's important news.
I'm posting the Bleak Beautiful Folky Harrowing Halloween songs now to Bufrawk2 (two). Under the title In the October Country.
