Buffista Music III: The Search for Bach

There's a lady plays her fav'rite records/On the jukebox ev'ry day/All day long she plays the same old songs/And she believes the things that they say/She sings along with all the saddest songs/And she believes the stories are real/She lets the music dictate the way that she feels.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

For the Twee Indie Pop fans...

An interesting blog project where the writer compares tracks from the seminal indie collection ...One Last Kiss with contemporary bands, track for track.

You'll get a sense of it here with this comparison of Lois Maffeo's "Baseball Bat" with Cars Can Be Blue's "Do You Remember? which sports the near-perfect angsty chorus, "What is wrong with me? / Why won't anyone love me?"

Just follow the One Last Kiss tag to see all the entries. I discovered several new (to me) bands of interest like Pants Yell and Tiny Microphone.

"We are the Goon Squad and we're coming to town...Beep! Beep!" - David Bowie, "Fashion"

Leading contender for most bizarre murder ballad ever:

Wow, something even Nick Cave wouldn't try to make a song out of.

BTW, where was that song from, Hec?

Burnett & Rutherford

They were responsible for the song which later become "A Man of Constant Sorrow."

You should know I'm a big deal in the Resistance.

I just got back from The Raconteurs at the Greek Theatre. Wow. If I hadn't seen The Pleasure Barons in a little club in Hollywood that would have been the best concert I ever saw. The second row seats surely helped. Man I am blown away.

Life moves pretty fast. You don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.

Laga--I clicked on this thread as I was listening to "Consolers of the Lonely" and your post was the first that came up! I totally envy you.

It was an incredible experience. My first time at The Greek too. It will not be my last, what a beautiful venue. Such a diverse crowd, too.

I wish I could mix sound. Someone really needs to do a mashup of "Steady As She Goes" with "Is She Really Going Out With Him?".

We won’t stop until everyone is gay.

Is it too early to start talking Halloween music? I'm hoping someone might have a good copy of DJ Jazzy Jeff & the Fresh Prince's "Nightmare on My Street."

We're trying to pick a song to dance to for the Halloween bellydance party and that one came up. Other suggestions are also welcome.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

I don't have the Fresh Prince, smonster, but I have posted a lot of Halloween music at both Buffistarawks. Search under Halloween or "Toil and Trouble."

I think something like Harry Belafonte's "Zombie Jamboree" would probably work for bellydancing. Also the Addams Family exploitation dance song, "The Lurch" is a big favorite around our house.

Anyway, there's a lot to check out there.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

Also check out..."The Vampire Club" by Voltaire, "Swingin' at the Seance" (40s era swing), "Remains of the Day" - Danny Elfman (from Corpse Bride) and "I'm a Vampire" by Future Bible Heroes. But wait! There's more... t /K-Tel
