Buffista Music III: The Search for Bach

There's a lady plays her fav'rite records/On the jukebox ev'ry day/All day long she plays the same old songs/And she believes the things that they say/She sings along with all the saddest songs/And she believes the stories are real/She lets the music dictate the way that she feels.

“Not dead yet!”

How is this album? I saw it at the library but I thought it might be too treacly. I like both their voices though.

I have it-- Oddly, my favorite track is The Kids Are Alright. (This from an avowed Who fan, but for whatever reason, it works.)

The other tracks I like are Alone Again Or, Different Drum, and Run to Me (although my absolute favorite remake of that song is Raul Malo's. le sigh)

A steady diet of their voices is overwhelming, but for something lovely and as Vonnie said, easy on the ear, they're nice.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

Susanna also participated in the Rainy Day project with various members of the LA Paisley Underground in the 80's.

So imagine Mazzy Star-like versions of things like the Velvets' "I'll Be Your Mirror" and Dylan's "I'll Keep It With Mine."

Kendra Smith (ex of Dream Syndicate, then with Mazzy Star predecessor, Opal) also sings on "Flying on the Ground Is Wrong" (early Neil Young with Buffalo Springfield) and "Holocaust" (Alex Chilton).

Really gorgeous stuff.
