Buffista Music III: The Search for Bach

There's a lady plays her fav'rite records/On the jukebox ev'ry day/All day long she plays the same old songs/And she believes the things that they say/She sings along with all the saddest songs/And she believes the stories are real/She lets the music dictate the way that she feels.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

Jon is officially now the boy with perpetual nervousness.

I needed to bounce some songs from the laptop to the home computer so I decided to do so via Buffistarawk.

I just posted two lesser known (but excellent) Lesley Gore songs, "Wonder Boy" (Scopitone on YouTube here) and "Look of Love" (not the Bacharach tune, but a really great Barry/Greenwich tune).

For fans of Girl Group pop.

Favorite 70s Video This week: "I Lost My Heart to a Starship Trooper" by Sarah Brightman and Hot Gossip.

Sweet! I'll check out the Girl Group songs when I get home.

Plus I, too, am jealous of Jon "Boy W/Perpetual Nervousness" B and Tom "Fa Fa Fa Fa Fa Ce-La" Scola.

On the other hand, my neighbor, a college professor, just invited me to go to dinner with him and Ian MacKaye in November. I'm not a huge fan of Fugazi (although I like the first two albums), but MacKaye seems like an interesting guy to spend time with.

Cool! My friend Ivar Hanson was in Embrace with Ian.

Ivar's now in the South Pacific with his wife who works for the UN.

Got any tips about what MacKaye is like in person? Should I see if he wants to sneak out back and get high, maybe?

A turkey in every toilet -- only in America!

Should I see if he wants to sneak out back and get high, maybe?

Ha!

You know, Ivar said that things like "straight edge" and "emocore" all started as jokes that people outside the original DC scene took way too seriously.

Ivar played with Ian's brother Alec in several bands.

A guy I barely know just IMed me to tell me how much he dislikes the Shoot Out The Lights album, telling me that he thinks it's flat and all the songs sound the same - and wanting to persist after I tried to discourage him. You know, everyone's entitled to their opinion and all, but why the hell would anyone think that I care, let alone be interested? I'm not the album's ombudsman, but - as I make clear in THE FUCKING BOOK I WROTE ABOUT IT - quite the fan. The guy's got no sense if he thinks I want to hear his ill-informed opinion, let alone ever talk to him again. What an ass.
