Anyone heard the new Magnetic Fields? I'm particularly fond of the song "Three-Way".
The whole album has lots of distortion/fuzz and reverb - sorta' has the Jesus and Mary Chain Psychocandy sound to it.
There's a lady plays her fav'rite records/On the jukebox ev'ry day/All day long she plays the same old songs/And she believes the things that they say/She sings along with all the saddest songs/And she believes the stories are real/She lets the music dictate the way that she feels.

I only heard "Too Drunk To Dream", and grew tired of it pretty fast.
Is the album still available for streaming on the myspace, or I'm confusing them with another band?
It was at one point - don't know if it still is.

That was Merritt's mission statement for the album.
He wanted "Distortion" to sound like "Psychocandy," the abrasive 1985 debut album by the Scottish group the Jesus and Mary Chain. "I feel like 'Psychocandy' is the last significant event in pop music production," Mr. Merritt said. "It’s the last album that sounded shockingly new, to me anyway."[link]
I dig the album quite a bit, myself.

Oh yeah - I remember reading that....
I can't second Thea Gilmore enough!
Other women singing stuff: the Red Sun Band (male drummer though), Ingrid Michaelson, Laura Marling, Tegan & Sara, the Watson Twins, Ane Brun, Jem, Sally Crewe, Cat Power, Gemma Hayes, Gillian Welch, Jenny Hoyston, Jenny Owen Youngs, Laura Veirs, Rachelle van Zanten and lost more. It's impossible to remmeber and list all the good ones.
Picked up the new Beck yesterday, and quite liked it. It's got a really melancholy tone to it, but the music keeps springing fun surprises - it's a nice study in contrast.
Mr. Jane pre-ordered it through iTunes. It was downloading when I left this morning. I'm looking forward to trying it out when I get home.
My iPod just finished playing an album. Quick, what should I listen to next?
eta: OK, I settled on having my iPod play random Replacements tracks....
