Buffista Music III: The Search for Bach

There's a lady plays her fav'rite records/On the jukebox ev'ry day/All day long she plays the same old songs/And she believes the things that they say/She sings along with all the saddest songs/And she believes the stories are real/She lets the music dictate the way that she feels.

"We are the Goon Squad and we're coming to town...Beep! Beep!" - David Bowie, "Fashion"

I'm amused, in perusing my iTunes, that I have 7 versions of "Hallelujah":

You need to get the John Cale version in there.

aka "The artist formerly known as Corwood Industries."

Did I miss Kraftwerk's "Autobahn"?

I'm pretty sure I have it on my laptop at home. I was surprised to not see it pop up on the list in my iTunes at work.

Sufjan Stevens - "Chicago"

Song about a road trip. And I can get you a copy of that.

More songs that (at least kind of, sort of, maybe, partially) fit the theme, that I can provide, if necessary:

Gomez -- "Devil Will Ride"
Janis Joplin -- "Mercedes Benz"
Johnny Cash -- "One Piece At A Time"
Joni Mitchell -- "Big Yellow Taxi"
Nick Drake -- "Road"

Actually, my sisters are coming to town this evening, so I may not be able to upload until tomorrow, if someone else can do them earlier.

You should know I'm a big deal in the Resistance.

Since you don't have the John Denver, see if you can find Toots and the Maytals version of Country Roads. It's so great.

My road trip must hear song is "Gimme Shelter". It doesn't specifically mention road tripping but when I hear it I always feel like I'm gonna get where I'm going.

"What kind of magical sunshine and lollipop world do you live in? Because you need to be medicated."-SFist

Sorry, had a meeting.

Thanks to juliana for sending me Corb Lund. Thanks to Perkins, Tep, Sue, and Sean for sending stuff along later.

Gomez -- "Devil Will Ride"
Janis Joplin -- "Mercedes Benz"
Johnny Cash -- "One Piece At A Time"
Joni Mitchell -- "Big Yellow Taxi"
Nick Drake -- "Road"

Definitely interested in "Mercedes Benz". I already took off "Road", can't remember why. I also ended up taking out taxi songs (including "Mr. Cab Driver"). I don't know the other two, but I'm always happy to check out new music.

Convoy -- C.W. McCall

Oooh, that's already there, but I forgot to add it to the list I posted.

I bet if you go to the "Car Talk" website you can find some good car songs.

sumi, I was going to say great suggestion (and it is), but then I realized that the buffistas had added so many suggestions of their own that it probably wasn't even necessary!

As always, thanks for your suggestions!
