Thank you. The backlash is already in on her, and I just don't get it. Yeah, she's kind of cutesy at times, but not to the point of distraction. Beyond that, she's all manner of accomplished and lyrically talented.
I'm not on her bandwagon, though I know that puts me in the minority in this group. I just can't get over how cutesy to the point of distraction "The Dog Song" is. And it was pounded into my head by all the radio stations I listened to at work until I COULD NOT STAND IT ANYMORE. Every once in a while there's an artist I refuse because of one song, and it may take me years before I can get past that one song and actually sample the rest of that artist's work. I'm afraid Ms. McKay is in that group.
I'm not into Norah Jones or Madeline Peyroux, either; maybe there's a trend line in those data points.
I don't know if y'all have seen this: A high school class does an a capella medley of Nintendo songs.
I'm not into Norah Jones or Madeline Peyroux
In case the mention of the name was making anyone else wonder, it looks like Madeleine Peyroux has reappeared.
I like Nellie McKay because even though she is obviously insane and occasionally very very annoying (that "rap" song? OMG KILL), I've never heard anything quite like her. She's very compelling.
I'm sort of in Rio's camp in that I think I prefer McKay as a concept to the actual artist.
But I do love Peyroux. Anyone who can pull off both "J'Ai Deux Amours" and "Between the Bars" (although the piano line on the latter is a Bit Much) is OK by me.
I love McKay's song "I Wanna Get Married." It's hilarious and beautiful and totally weird all at once.
I'm surprised they play her on the radio enough to be annoying. What kind of station? (I don't listen to music on the radio much.)
WXPN was playing it pretty regularly. They're online.
I think KCRW also was playing it.
What kind of station are they?
