Aha! I have another review here.
I was curious to see how Smay would tackle the album and I admit I had doubts if one could pull off an appreciation of such a record and not sound arse-lickey or descend into tiresome Waits cliches ( his voice, his love for blues and so on)but I was amazed. Smay not only gives the reader a whole new angle on Waits but also manages to create the same feel as Swordfish.... within his writing style. Sometimes dark, sometimes freaky, cool and casual. This is the true masterstroke of the book itself.
Wow!
What an excellent review.
Sometimes dark, sometimes freaky, cool and casual.
That could describe Mr. Smay as well.
'Cept he's
mostly
dark....

Ha! Back in the day I played Any Day Now every day for like three months.
I did something like that with "Fugitive Motel" and "Great Expectations", too! Guy Garvey sure has a voice on him.
The new single is harder and darker and bluesier than their usual stuff. Dunno if that's representative of the whole album, but I dig it.
