Buffista Music III: The Search for Bach

There's a lady plays her fav'rite records/On the jukebox ev'ry day/All day long she plays the same old songs/And she believes the things that they say/She sings along with all the saddest songs/And she believes the stories are real/She lets the music dictate the way that she feels.

Remember that the frontier of the Rebellion is everywhere. And even the smallest act of insurrection pushes our lines forward.

To promote their release of the first Feelies album, "Crazy Rhythms," in 1980, Stiff Records issues this flexidisc of an extended medley crafted from excerpts of a few of the album's key tracks. Shortly thereafter the "Stars On 45" phenomenon began. Coincidence, or idea thievery? We think not.

The artist formerly associated with cupcakes.

Vanian looked really good for 50 in person as well, though I'm pretty sure he was helped by a bit of foundation.

'we all walk this earth feeling we are frauds. The trick is to be grateful and hope the caper doesn't end any time soon"

I've got a very fond spot in my heart for Old Punk Rockers Who Do Good Later In Life, especially ones that enthuse about theremins and have adorable toddlers and that kind of stuff.

Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

Led Zeppelin is gonna play theremins? (kidding)

ION, anyone heard about this?

Oh my god. As if it wasn't shocking enough that starlet Scarlett Johansson was working on an album of Tom Waits covers (read Tom's reaction here), and sang with the Jesus and Mary Chain at Coachella. Apparently, her album is being produced by David Sitek of TV on the Radio and features members of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs and Celebration!!!

According to Lafayette, Louisiana's Daily Advertiser, the Ghost World and Lost in Translation star spent "33 days in Maurice [Louisiana] recording her debut CD at Dockside Studio."

Studio owner Steve Nails described the music as "like a theater, big screen. Lots of heavy bass tones in it. Without a bass guitar, we used all kind of different instruments to create these sounds. It was a great experiment. Very avant garde. She sounds like Marilyn Monroe." He also "predicts her CD will go platinum and win a Grammy," according to the Daily Advertiser.

Should we be concerned? Cautiously optimistic?

Also, has Steve Nails ever worked with Nine Inch Nails?

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

Should we be concerned? Cautiously optimistic?

She's got a decent voice. Sounds like she's taking an innovative approach. Who knows?

I loved reading the Tom Waits interview (linked to in the story about Scarlett). It was unpossible not to hear the interview in his voice as I read along.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

Yeah, Tom gives great interview. But he's very slippery too. That whole bit about being a ventriloquist is completely apt because if he doesn't want to tell you something you're just going to get spun off on a thousand and one tales and macabre facts of insect life.

The feeling you get when your brain finally lets your heart get in its pants.

Congratulations Corwood and family!
